Default WKRP in Cincinnati vs. NewsRadio

These are two sitcoms that were set at a radio station. WKRP is an easy choice for me, while NewsRadio is an easy choice for Adamantium.

Besides being set in radio stations, they have something else in common. Disrespect from the network. NewsRadio was moved around the schedule nine times in four and a half seasons. WKRP was also moved around the schedule a lot.

And yes, NewsRadio is a VERY easy choice for me. It's my all-time favorite sitcom. I still remember watching the pilot on NBC back on March 21st, 1995. I knew back then this was a special show.

As for WKRP, I've never been a fan. I've watched it back when Nick at Nite aired it and it just didn't impress me. One of the few shows from the '70s that I have no intention of buying on DVD (though I'm glad it's available for the fans).

WKRP. Only saw NewsRadio once or twice and didn't really care for it that much. But I really enjoyed WKRP on Antenna TV back in 2012 on Sunday nights. I hope to get the DVD later this year.

I suggest you buy the old Sony releases for NewsRadio. Not only do they have a bunch of commentaries from the cast, writers, director and network president Warren Littlefield, but they are also cheap to buy. But the main reason I'm pushing for the Sony sets is because the Mill Creek set seems to be missing an episode. It's "The Injury", which was shot early in season two but NBC waited until the end of season three to broadcast it. It's listed as being on (I believe) disc 3 but it's nowhere to be found when you play the actual disc. Oddly enough the Sony sets has this episode twice. Once in season two (where it was made) and then again in season three (where it was aired).

Loved both shows, but WKRP wins here IMO.

Oh thanks! I was thinking about buying the Mill Creek complete series but now I'm considering buying the Sony complete series set.

On Amazon, the sets are really cheap. Seasons 1 & 2 is $6.99. Season three is $6.75 and season four is $6.99. Season five is $6.75. So that's $27.48 total.

Hmmm ... maybe. It's not an absolute favorite of mine so I think just buying a complete series will be fine by me. $27 (actually $28) isn't too bad for an entire series based on what I've spent before ... I'll let you guys know what I decide on!

WKRP is one of my all-time favorites. Never really watched much of Newsradio; I didn't find the characters that likeable in my brief glimpses, but to be fair I should check it out further.

It's not going to beat WKRP, though.

Two great shows.

I remember one of the actors of "Newsradio" - I think it was Dave Foley - mentioning "WKRP" in an interview and thinking it was so strange of him to compare his show to WKRP, and then I realized the connection, two shows about a radio station. I never once thought of "WKRP" when watching "Newsradio."

I think I love them both equally.
