I wonder if the attack is staged to try and get thru to these sites that try to force ppl to view thier spam ads??

there are any number of motives behind this sort of thing - from just hijacking your search engine or browser, using your PC in botnets, or even encrypting your hard drive and blackmailing you to get them to unlock it, with no guarantee that they even can unlock it once you've paid them.

these guys are scumbags and unfortunately a majority of them are in countries that are untouchable by law enforcement
