What do you do when you can't sleep? Just wondering. I know some people get insomnia. As you can probably guess I can't sleep.

1-Eat protein esp. turkey. 2-Go onto you tube 3-If I have to go to bed SUPER EARLY for an unusual work event (like when I had to get up at 3:30 am once) I take a half dose of a night time cold capsule. It takes me right out in about 40 min - but I VERY RARELY do this - maybe once every 18 months.

I have Hydroxyzine prescribed to me, but it doesn't really work. They refuse to give me anything stronger anymore for sleep!! Sometimes, esp. if I feel a little cold coming on and I can't sleep, I take some NyQuil!

I put on a CD and I'm usually in dreamland within 15-30 minutes.

If I have nothing to do the next day, I just relax, get on the web or watch tv. If I have an appointment or friends with plans, I just hate the feeling, especially when I used to work.
The best thing to do is try to relax and tell yourself that it's not the end of the world to face a day with no sleep although it often feels that way. Insomnia is terrible. I do find that I sleep better as I get older. |

I watch a boring cable news channel & it puts me right to sleep but make sure the volume is on really low or a loud commercial will wake you right up.

I'm sorry that you are dealing with insomnia, Jenny. A little is annoying and frustrating, but long term insomnia can wreak havoc on your health, mental and physical.
Don't watch TV, play on your smart phone, or use the internet. The blue light is too stimulating. Real a "real" book for a while. I've had luck using mini, and I mean, mini doses of Z Quil. I've also recently started small doses of melatonin which work as well. It's hard to get the right balance of something that will help me versus something that will turn me into a cranky zombie the next day. I've also heard that doing leg lift in your bed, or getting up and doing some squats help as well, but I haven't had success with either. Good luck, I hope you are able to get some quality rest soon. |

Close my eyes and think about something pleasant like maybe interactions at my job with a woman I have a crush on
Once I do that I am out like a light

I usually try to imagine stuff that I find pleasant and then I fall right to sleep.
