Deon Cole Will Return to "black-ish" and a "Good Times" Homage Is in the Works

"black-ish" may have just come off a critically-acclaimed police brutality episode and an early third season renewal, but the show's momentum isn't slowing down yet.

Executive producer Jonathan Groff confirmed to TVGuide.com at Paley Fest 2016 that Deon Cole, who departed the show mid-season to star on TBS' "Angie Tribecca", will be reprising his role of Charlie Telphy in a special appearance before the end of the season.

"We said a very tearful goodbye to Charlie in episode 10," Groff said. "We're going to see him again in a little bit. He's going to come play for a little bit so we're really excited about it."





Also, the show's season finale will take another trip back to the past. This time, the Johnsons will travel to the '70s with an homage to Norman Lear.

"The season finale is a homage to the great '70s sitcom Good Times," Groff teased. "We will actually see a fever dream of Dre's [Anthony Anderson] and he visits that world."
