I was listening to music and found a CD of Mary Chapin Carpenter and I would like to know what she is doing now? She was one of the top singers in Country Music and is best known for the song I Feel Lucky,

This is my favorite song of hers.
This is by far my least favorite and unfortunately it remains her only #1 hit. |

I haven't heard much about her for a few years. Like many stars they fade away after their heyday. Too bad because in my opinion the country singers from the early 90's were the best! Dwight Yoakam, Travis Tritt, Alan Jackson,Patty Loveless, Carlene Carter,Trisha Yearwood, etc.
"Down At The Twist And Shout" is my favorite Mary Chapin Carpenter song.

Country radio, like most radio these days, is both sexist and ageist. To break out into the scene for females, you pretty much have to look like a model these days, no matter what the quality of the music is like. Thank God that it wasn't like that when Mary Chapin came onto the scene, because we otherwise wouldn't know her extraordinary talents.
Even though radio hasn't played her in years, she is still very much making music. It's quite different from her past music, though. It's more poetic and it's extremely well-written. She still tours frequently as well. She went through extremely tough times a few years back with a personal health crisis, the end of her marriage and the loss of a parent. Those feelings are really reflected in her current music. I had the pleasure of meeting her before one of her shows a few years back, and she is a kind, pleasant person. I'll always love this performance she gave on the CMA awards in the early 90's. |

Yes, Mary Chapin Carpenter's a talented singer and songwriter. Kind of introspective. I have a couple of her albums. I enjoy a lot of her songs but personally my favorite is Never Had It So Good. Which I think was her first or second single.

Oh yeah Quittin' Time is a good song too. I love the twangy guitar on Never Had It So Good though.
