Anybody else think Jack was acting very obnoxious and unprofessional? He had a problem working for a woman I guess. When you're desperate for a job you should take it a little more seriously. If he didn't want to be there he should have just said so. I don't blame Janet for being upset over his behavior. Funny episode, though!

I thought the exact same thing. I don't know if it was working for a woman that bothered him...I just got the feeling that he figured since Janet was his friend he could get away with being goofy. But he was 10 times as goofy at work than he was at home! So yeah, I agree. Janet was completely justified in being annoyed with him.

I know. Jack didn't understand the need to take seriously a job he desperately needed in that situation.

Jack was ridiculous in this episode. He was beyond annoying and totally unprofessional. He really took advantage of Janet and then acted as if he was the victim when Janet complained.

But at least they were able to make up in the end. However, Jack being stuck without a job was a casualty that everyone had to deal with for the time being.

Just realized that Jack didn't have steady a job until season 3 or 4

Talk about unrealistic, living with 2 hot girls and contributing nothing to the rent or food lol

No steady job but he had part-time jobs that paid enough to cover his share. Let's say he had a 20-hr/wk job that paid minimum wage ($2.30 in 1977). That's $46 per week and $184 a month (no taxes taken out).

I did some quick research for 1970/1980 prices. These are the expenses that Janet mentioned in the first episode:

$300 rent/3 = $100
$18 phone/3 = $6
$200 food/3 = $66
(I'm assuming trash and water were included in the rent since they lived in an apt complex.)

Jack's total expense share: $172

Not much wiggle room, but doable. We also saw him get jobs like painting the building at $100 for two days' work or modeling for $10/hr for a few hours--a couple jobs like that in one month and he'd be sitting pretty.

And him cooking was a financial contribution in a way---otherwise the girls would be eating out, which would have been even more expensive.

It was so odd that Janet and Chrissy was so old and didn't know how to cook anything lol

Doesn't matter how old they were. Some people are just naturally born bad cooks. My mother was always a terrible cook yet I am a caterer.

They were pretty pathetic especially when Jack tried to show the girls how to bake a cake and when Chrissy cracked her egg, she left all the shells in the bowl!

Actually Janet tried to cook a casserole in "Jack Moves Out" that Chrissy couldn't even identify

Also Chrissy made that birthday cake for Jack that he joked was made by U.S. Steel in "Coffee, Tea, or Jack."

And Terri and Janet tried making that roast chicken/turkey dinner in "Baby It's Cold Inside" and it looked pretty horrible.
