There was a mistake on Cheers. I don't know the name of the episode, but it's the one where Sam's trying to figure out what song puts Rebecca in the mood. He discovers that it's, You've Lost that Loving Feeling, by the Righteous Brothers.
Sam gets the tape, goes to Rebecca's office, but she gets mad at his attempt. Sam leaves, a knock is heard on the door and Rebecca opens it and starts kissing Norm, thinking it's Sam. The song had really put her in the mood after all. The mistake is that the song that was playing was Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers, and not You've Lost that Loving Feeling. Not a big deal--but did anyone else catch this error? |

Maybe Sam meant to play "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" but got the tape screwed up and just went with it. Even though Rebecca didn't give in to him, he did stumble upon the right song after all.

That could be it Freakzilla, yet my gut tells me it was a continuity error. There was no reference to Sam's confusing the songs, and Rebecca went wild over the song.
I could be wrong--it certainly wouldn't be the first time.

The correct song was there in the original airing. I'm guessing there was some problem with royalties for the song, so Paramount replaced it. This happens all the time on shows that had a lot of music originally, like "WKRP". The latest syndicated versions of that show have almost all of the original music cut out, replaced with generic instrumentals.

Thanks TV Guy. I just knew there had to be a logical explanation.

Hmmm.... Sam and Rebecca were dancing to "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" on tonight's 1am episode... so they must have paid to use that song after all.

<scratches head>I'm leaning again towards a continuity error. |
