Oh No HELP! Does anyone here use locate TV? They are shutting down.

www.locatetv.com just announced they are closing down. It breaks my heart. I keep lots of TV shows and movies stored in my account and it will tell you within two of weeks of the shows or movies coming on TV with the channel and time. I have used this for so long and love it, I feel lost. Does anyone know if there is anything else like this I can use now?

For example I could add 'My Three Sons' to my list and IF that show ever came on my channels it would show the date, time, channel. I had 250 movies and TV shows stored on Locate TV and loved that if they ever did come on I got notified on my personal schedule. Your personal schedule only showed the movies/shows you added if they were coming on TV.

I have tried the ones listed below but they basically just show what is coming like a regular TV schedule. I can get that with my Dish Guide.

I would try to use tvschedule.zap2it.com Because it's very useful and more updating than locatetv though. Sorry about locatetv to shut down. There's also tvguide.com

Oh no ): I always use Locatetv for my schedules and now I'll have to rely on other websites like Zap2it.

I use Titan TV. You can customize it to your liking including picking your favorite shows and channels. You can also search for shows and it will tell you if they're on in the next few weeks.

The thing about Locate TV that was great is you could store the names of 250 TV shows and movies and they would automatically show up on your daily schedule when a channel was going to air them. I have tried others like TV Guide and Titan TV but they basically just show what is coming on TV and you have to do specific searches for movies, shows etc.
Locate TV was perfection. It's a shame as far as we've come that there is nothing else like this.

Hi Patty. I feel your pain. I have just joined “Sitcoms Online” in order to comment.

I came across “Sitcoms Online” by Googling the words “LocateTV closing down” and that threw up your comments here. I was/am trying to find out why LocateTV is closing down and what alternatives there might be. So far, I haven’t found anything that has the functionality of LocateTV (mainly, as it seems is troubling you, the ability to keep up to 250 items in your “My Picks”. The “My Picks” list is the vital thing that sets LocateTV apart from other TV listings sites. Without it, planning on what to watch becomes a much more time-consuming and hit-and-miss affair.

I started using LocateTV about 4 or 5 years ago when the Radio Times website was revamped. It became a lot more glossy and modern but, for me, lost all its useful functionality (i.e. mainly the “My Programmes” feature – similar to LocateTV “My Picks”).

I would imagine that maintaining something like an individual “My Picks” list for hundreds/thousands of subscribers is a major overhead and headache. Much easier just to provide listings that you can import from a source and just present on a website in your own interface.

Like you, I’m unhappy because I know how much more time and inconvenience it is going to cost me to use any of the other TV listings websites there seem to be out there. There are plenty of them but they are all doing the same thing and don’t offer the key feature(s) I need. Amazingly, I can see a point, in the not too distant future, where I’ll give up on normal TV altogether. I only have Freeview and I don’t even bother to look at the schedules for all but about 6 channels. 75% of the stuff I watch is on the BBC so I could just use iPlayer.

I will let you know if I find a good alternative to LocateTV but I am not hopeful. I, for one, would be happy to pay a subscription to a site such as LocateTV just to keep it going and have the type of product I want – but there doesn’t seem to be anything like that.

I would also be willing to pay for LocateTV and would have offered that as an option for them to try with all their users but I can't seem to contact them anymore. The Facebook page is now gone and so is other contact info. I would think if each of us paid 5.00 per month it would pay for them to continue with the site. It would be worth it to me. I have spent days trying to find anything close to what Locate TV offered and there is nothing.

Titan TV and zap2it.com seem to only cater for viewers in the USA. No use for us in jolly old England

I'd be happy to pay Ł5.00 a month to keep a service such as LocateTV going.

In all honesty, having shopped around at the various TV listing sites available, all I can see as a realistic alternative is to use the Radio Times website as source info and maintain my own spreadsheet of stuff already watched. At least that way, using the Radio Times website, I'll have good (i.e. intelligent and reliable) movie reviews.

What a faff! The TV listings websites all seem to be far more interested in suggesting other things we might want to watch (based on what we already watch) than they do on enabling us to keep track of what we are really interested in.

Traditional TV is, in my opinion, dying. And this is happening, in my opinion, because the broadcasters are trying to tell us what we want rather than listen to what we tell them we want. They are signing their own death warrant with this behavior.

I'm in your boat exactly. How will I know know when that one missing episode of "History's Mysteries" is finally being aired? Sigh.

The best alternative I've found is tvmaze.com. You can "follow" shows and select which episodes you've seen and not seen. You can see a scheduling of airing of your followed shows. So far, though, I haven't seen a way to be notified of upcoming airings of repeat episodes of long-running series.
