Default If Mr. Griffith Was a 'Control Freak' How Did Goober Get on "Hee Haw"?

Yes, I know that George Lindsey said that Mr. Griffith was a control freak and all but if that were the case, then HOW was Mr. Lindsey able to play Goober as the EXACT same Goober Pyle on "Hee Haw"[and not Mr. Lindsey playing a Goober-type] for some 20 years without Mr. Griffith trying to stop him or suing the other show for copywright infringement? Did the "Hee Haw" producers somehow work out a deal with Mr. Griffith letting him greenlight Goober in exchange for something else or did Mr. Griffith simply didn't think this was something worth bothering to mess with? BTW, I don't recall Mr. Griffith or any other "TAGS" regular guesting in character or as themselves visiting Goober on "Hee Haw". Does anyone here know and be willing to share the answers? Thanks!

I think the answer is less Andy being a control freak and more George Lindsey being angry that Goober wasn't as welcomed as warmly as Gomer was and most fans not having that good a view of a character on TAGS or MRFD (I've never seen Hee-Haw so I can't say how popular he was there) As for why he was allowed to do it, I think it was just Andy figured he wasn't hurting anyone and just let it go, plus Hee-Haw started out on CBS, so there was probably that to.

Thanks for answering that Mayberry's Bad Boy.

Still, considering that Mr. Lindsey got to play Goober for some eight years on 'TAGS' and 'Mayberry RFD' AND the 20-something years of 'Hee Haw' while Mr. Nabors only got to be Gomer one year on 'TAGS' and five years on his own spin-off, I think Mr. Lindsey got the steadier gig.

So, does anyone know if Mr. Griffith actually greenlighted 'Hee Haw' letting Goober on their show for some compensation or did he just decide to let it go?

according to george lindsey ;s book it was his understanding that the producers of hee haw paid andy griffth/danny thomas and the other producers for use of the goober name and likeness
