Arrow Prom

I know this is a strange question, but to any of you who've ever been to a prom or any dance for that matter-have you gone alone or with a lot of girl or guy friends? I know there's some 'technical' term for that...but I thought I'd just ask.

I've been to school dances at my old school in a town I used to live in. I went alone, but hung out with my friends. I danced with one guy when I was in the eighth grade. Dances at city schools, well I just hear that alot of people show up drunk at the dances, so I just don't go to any.

It's called going "stag" when you go alone. Is that the word you were looking for?

Cool

I had that stupid belief that you had to have a date to go to your high school prom. As a result, I didn't go. It's something I really regret now. I could have gone and hung out with my friends and had a great time.

My college has semi-formal dances every Spring. I always got to those, whether I have a date or not.

I went to the prom with a date, but many people went with just groups of friends. Prom was the only dance I went to in high school, but in 7th and 8th grade I went to a few and I always went with my best friend.

I went to my senior prom with 6 other girls and it was probably more fun than if I'd have gone with a guy. This guy that wanted to ask me never did (go figure).

Default Prom?

For those of you who have gone to or held a prom help. You see I'm currently a sophomore, and next year we have to host the prom. The problem is we need at least $2,500 for deposits and only have $300-500. So I need to know if you know of any ways to earn over $2,000 by this time next year, and if you have any ideas on how to throw a great prom for less(just in case we don't earn the money in time).

Thanks,
Panda Bear

I never went to any of my school dances.
You weren't always expected to go with someone, but if you did go alone you were kinda expected to leave with someone (or at least get together with someone while you were there). Therefore, since I had noone to go with and noone was likely to wanna leave with me either I always stayed home.
Never going to any of the school dances is not something I regret. I'd have just sat in the corner by myself all night anyway so I was better off not bothering to go at all!

Hmmm... Prom.... Oh yeah, there's a story there. I made the mistake of letting one of my friends set me up with a guy that I barely knew. As a result we only danced together twice - I didn't really like him very much - and he ended up hooking up with another girl in our group. Her date and I had known each other since 6th grade and we totally hooked up too, so we kinda had a date-swap thing going on. lol, hey, it worked. We all had a ton of fun - so go with a group of friends, you never know what can happen!

It always annoys me that people seem to think that you can't have a good time at social functions unless you "hook up" with someone. And if you don't get together with someone everyone thinks you're a loser........or even worse, they try to console you about it "oh don't worry - you'll find someone next time". I can't stand that! Why should you have to get with someone or else the night is deemed a total waste of time? Is that all that matters in life????????

Ok, I'm done ranting now.

Well, may I gently point out to you that you yourself said in your previous post that you didn't attend school dances because you would end up sitting in a corner the whole time? You yourself said you were better off not bothering to go at all.

I mean I see what you're saying, and I agree with you, it is rubbish that people can't seem to have fun without hooking up... But it seems that very attitude you despise has rubbed off on you, at least a little bit, or else you would've gone and had a blast anyway, no matter what others thought about it.

Ok, maybe I'm not making sense.
Basically I didn't wanna go to any dances cos it'd just bum me out watching everyone get together with everyone else while I'm left sitting on my own in the corner. That's why I don't go to parties anymore either - cos my mates always dump me for some guy they just met, like, 2 minutes previously! I'm not upset cos I didn't end up with anyone - I'm annoyed that my friends don't think I'm important enough to even have the decency to tell me they're leaving with someone else - they just dump me!!!!!
Also, I can't put up with people saying stuff to me like "oh it doesn't matter that you didn't hook up with anyone, there's nothing wrong with you" when it's clear to me that they're lying and they actually find it quite funny that ol' Mossopp is left on her own again. It's just patronising!
