Default Am I dreaming or has GSN been going downhill?

Lately when I have seen GSN I have noticed that it's slowly going downhill and I would like to know why the reason is? Is it because GSN is trying to attract a new audience to the channel or is GSN trying to get a new image this year? Because when I watch Catch 21 every morning I have seen advertisements for stuff such as life insurance and motorized scooters and As Seen On TV ads and it tells me that GSN scores high ratings with the senior crowd. Another thing that i've noticed about GSN is that they seem to have an obsession with one show and I simply do not know why on earth GSN does this. Ever since they started airing reruns of Steve Harvey's Family Feud it seems that GSN practically shows reruns of Family Feud almost every day of the week or weekend and I wish that GSN would show reruns of more game shows that are GSN favorites. The other thing I have noticed about GSN is when they introduce a new GSN original show GSN doesn't promote it or put advertisements in magazines. I've noticed this when The Chase came out in 2013 and every single entertainment magazines had no The Chase posters or advertisements and the only GSN shows that have gotten magazine ads are the now cancelled The American Bible Challenge and Skin Wars and you might think that GSN could do a lot better. Finally when GSN has successful game shows it always seems that the hosts get the center of attention because I've noticed that Steve Harvey and Mike Catherwood are the top GSN stars and it seems that Brooke Burns Mark Labbett Rebecca Romjin-Stamos and Ben Gleib are forgotten about. Is GSN trying to go in a new direction this year?,

Here's another thing I discovered about GSN that is causing them to go downhill. Whenever a famous game show host dies or has a birthday GSN does not even have a marathon of that host's show to celebrate or honor the game show host and I remember when GSN used to honor birthdays of game show hosts by having a marathon of a show that starred the game show host celebrating a birthday. Is this because GSN pays tons of money for special marathons now or is it because GSN is trying really hard to focus on other things as well? The other thing I've noticed about GSN is that on special holidays such as St. Patrick's Day and Easter GSN does not show special episodes on those days and you might think with Easter this Sunday GSN would have shown reruns of The American Bible Challenge and had other Easter themed game show episodes. The third thing I have discovered about GSN is whenever they have a popular show they never release merchandise based on the game show and it surprises me that GSN never does this and the only GSN shows that i've seen that has had merchandise are Lingo with a DVD board game Bingo America also with a DVD game and The American Bible Challenge teamed up with Walmart to sell an exclusive board game version of the show and the only merchandise i've seen for The Chase and Idiotest are tablet apps. Finally GSN should really update their morning lineup because I've noticed that GSN likes to put their good shows in the early timeslot and I think it would be good to see other game show favorites at a later timeslot. And I don't understand why GSN put reruns of The Pyramid after Catch 21 when I would LOVE to see another Catch 21 episode back to back or even Deal Or No Deal be shown to replace The Pyramid
What do you think of GSN in your opinion?

No, it's not you. I watch very little of GSN. I like Steve Harvey but Family Feud could wane on you because it's on all the time.

Thanks for your great opinion Mets82. I would like to see GSN show lots of other game shows besides Steve Harvey's Family Feud like reruns of Greed The Series Supermarket Sweep and the Monty Hall version of Let's Make A Deal rather than Family Feud all the time and with a lineup like this GSN would bring a wonderful new audience to the network and with the debuts of the new seasons of Skin Wars and Idiotest coming next month GSN will get huge ratings and be a success once again. Also when the new game show Winsanity debuts GSN will not go downhill and be a great channel again,

Yeah since it's become Steve Harvey and Family Feud all the time it's just unwatchable. I really hate that version, it's disgusting.

But I do watch The Chase, Idiotest, and the new version of Chain Reaction when I can. But I have to say I don't always watch Chain Reaction either. I think Mike Catherwood is kind of mean with his sense of humor sometimes and a little bit too smarmy. So no I don't always like him either.

Thank you for your wonderful reply Edward. I'm glad you agree with me about GSN. Even though GSN is no longer gonna have a new season of The Chase I still love to watch the reruns of it every Saturday morning. But also what could work wonders with GSN in my opinion that would make it a wonderful channel is that they should revive the Playmania interactive game show and lots more game shows that are interactive and attract a big fanbase indeed

Yeah, GSN has been pretty.... bad for a while now. I liked it several years ago when they showed all the old game shows, and IIRC, retro episodes of Wheel of Fortune, and two of my fave older game shows, Supermarket Sweep, and Shop Til You Drop. I tend to only watch GSN now if I'm super bored.

Just like Tvland, GSN used to be great. Lots of classic game shows with great hosts. Now they play crap shows like Baggage or some dumb game shows. But if you're lucky there's a TV network called Buzzr TV which airs all classic game shows

I think some of GSN's biggest mistakes that caused them to go downhill was when they canceled some of their original programming. Take for example GSN was gonna have a third season of Whammy but then when they got a new president GSN was gonna also add another season of Russian Roulette as well and it too got cancelled. But then a really smart thing happened to GSN that no other network had done in the history of TV networks. They started getting reruns of game shows a week after the show's cancellation starting with Deal Or No Deal and then repeated the same thing when they added reruns of the NBC Guy Fieri hosted version of Minute To Win It after NBC cancelled it. I think what has really made GSN go downhill for me that makes me so sad and it still makes me heartbroken and upset that they did this is the shocking cancellation of The Chase and I won't never understand why GSN would cancel a game show that was a smash hit everywhere and not only did they cancel The Chase but GSN also cancelled Lie Detectors and It Takes A Church as well and now the Michael Catherwood version of Chain Reaction might be cancelled as well. Hopefully GSN will bring back a new version of The Chase and focus less on Family Feud someday. Because that will make GSN fans really happy indeed

I think the real problem is that GSN will never be like it was. The thing is that all the original programming that you see is here to stay and the classic programming (Match Game, 25,000 Pyramid) is really there to a) throw the classic fans a bone and most importantly b) to prop up the original shows. What I mean is that the only reason why the classic shows are on there is so they can plug the newer stuff.

I've also noticed that whenever GSN has a hit smash show they make the host of the show their most popular star but when GSN cancels the show you don't hear much about the hosts anymore. Take for example when The Chase was launched on GSN in 2013 Mark Labbett became one of GSN's biggest stars but when GSN cancelled The Chase Mark Labbett is now a one hit wonder in America and now the only star of The Chase who is now appearing in Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Channel's series Gourmet Detective is Brooke Burns. Another former GSN star that also became a one hit wonder was Bill Engvall and ever since GSN cancelled the Lingo revival Bill Engvall has never hosted another game show for GSN and now it seems that Steve Harvey has become the number one star of GSN. Another thing that GSN should improve on is having a better lineup for Sunday morning and it seems that every Sunday morning GSN seems to play nothing but Family Feud and Deal Or No Deal is at 6AM PT and I would love to see shows like 1 Vs 100 or even Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader in place of Family Feud on Sunday mornings and that would make my Sundays happy times indeed

Here's another thing I have noticed about GSN that I cannot figure out why they do this. Whenever they have a popular show or a show that's just starting out GSN has started making spin-offs of the shows and I find it surprising that they do this. Take for instance starting last year GSN launched a spin-off show of Skin Wars called Skin Wars Fresh Paint that is hosted by RuPaul and it's gonna get a second season next month and also Idiotest has had a spin-off special as well. I find it odd that Idiotest and Skin Wars get spin-offs and not any other shows too. The other thing is why doesn't GSN show marathons on Memorial Day or any other summer holiday? I remember when GSN used to have Memorial Day marathons every year of shows such as The Chase The American Bible Challenge and Minute To Win It but now you don't see marathons for Memorial Day on GSN anymore. Is this done to save money or is it a chance for GSN to promote new summer shows?
I think that with Summer around the corner GSN will improve the network and gain a summer fanbase of people to gain Summer ratings and with shows like Winsanity coming to GSN this summer will be a miracle season for GSN and return to being a awesome network that GSN really is

Oh No

GSN has been going downhill for quite awhile.

More than likely, it was 2004 when the station Jumped The Shark by calling themselves GSN.

Then came...the reality shows! GSN only cares about one thing now...money!

I'm very happy you agree with me MrCleveland because GSN is one of my favorite channels and I wish GSN had a lineup that's more interesting rather than showing Steve Harvey's Family Feud and perhaps make a new version of The Chase or Catch 21 because those two shows are GSN fan favorites and maybe someday have an improved Sunday Morning lineup because every Sunday morning when I see GSN they show Family Feud also on Sunday and they should show game shows like Minute To Win It and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Thank you for replying MrCleveland
