That is the same as what I pay for rent in 2016 which is close to $800

Her new boss was asking her what are some nice areas to move to and that she is looking to spend $450. Mary told her she could get 3 or 4 apts for that amount lol

$450 in 1973 was like paying $2400 for rent in 2016

When Ted's annual salary was given as $31,000, it was 1971. That's like $176,000 today.

Rent must've went up. In the 2nd season episode "More Than Neighbors" (aired Jan 1972), her rent was $125 and Rhoda's was $87.50. The apartment that was being vacated below her was $225.
