Default Jeopardy Watchers: Trebek's personality and interaction with contestants

Do you like Trebek or do you like the show in spite of him?

I've kind of been impressed with his learning the foreign words, and all the "worldly" knowledge he seems to have (he has apparently travelled EVERYWHERE)...but some people find it show-off-y when he inserts it into the show.

I've noticed he tends to "top" contestant interview stories - if a contestant has been sky-diving once, he's been twice. A contestant talked about an X-files kind of fanclub she was in and he mentioned having been ON X-files. Some people think that's kind of "one-up-man-ship."

But I kind of feel like he almost can't help it, because that's how broad his worldly experience is.

Some people have said he gets kind of snide about people's wrong answers, or rubs in how well everyone's doing (but isn't it part of his job to kind of narrate how the game is going?)

This guy, Fred Vaughn, was champion from Friday the 22 through this past Wednesday (four days.) On the 22nd, he beat a three-time returning champion. Trebek said, "Well, who would have thought it?" In effect, "I didn't expect you to win." But the thing is - Vaughn got off to a REALLY rocky start in the first round, that night, so I'm sure the words reflected viewers' sentiments.

Did you see Trebek challenge the champion named Amelia Hershberger to arm-wrestle him, a few weeks ago? He seemed to let her win, and to only pretend to be sulky about losing, but it was a little...weird.

I've always liked Alex. I think he's amicable and he is smart. And yes he has traveled quite a bit apparently so he has a lot of experiences to share and talk about. I figure if other people don't like him because of that or whatever then that's their problem.

I met Alex at a celebrity hockey game once(his autograph is lying around here somewhere). He seemed nice enough.

I like him on the show but I have heard that people that met him or knew him didn't always have the best things to say about him. I have no idea what's true and what's not true. Supposedly he's close to retirement. I really hope the next host is not somebody obnoxious.

I would imagine he is close to retiring. But when he does I hope they decide to cancel Jeopardy. I wouldn't want to watch it with a different host. I like Alex that much. If other people want to continue watching it that's fine but I won't. It just wouldn't be the same for me.

That's ridiculous. Jeopardy is one of the few truly intelligent shows on, even if it has been dumbed-down slightly in recent years with more pop culture and female slanted questions, trying to get more women to win. Art Fleming hosted for years and was at least as good as Trebek. Jeopardy is a huge money maker and there's no way they'll retire the show with Trebek.

So I'm ridiculous? Wow thanks for that. Be that as it may you can keep watching Jeopardy if you want to, because hey it's a free country. But when Alex goes then so do I. It really doesn't affect you one way or the other.

You post some of the dumbest things I've read on the Internet in recent years. Thanks for giving me someone to laugh at.

The replacement search has been on for awhile now. Here's a piece from last year
