Channel 11 in New York seems to be settled in to their new late night schedule. I believe that it has been over two weeks since the show called "America's Court" has been on at three o'clock weekday mornings. This is the time in which "Gimme a Break!" used to be syndicated. By looking up the description, I see that it is a type of reality TV. Although I have never watched it, I am guessing that it is similar to shows like the "Peoples' Court" and "Judge Judy". These are shows that have been on since long before Reality TV became the rule rather than the exception. I find it amazing that, not only has Reality TV monopolized the prime time schedule, but it is now creeping onto the small networks during the times in which syndicated shows used to be on. One thing that goes without saying is the "Gimme a Break!" was a very popular show of Generation X. According to my experiences, people who grew up with shows like "Gimme a Break!" tend to hate Reality TV with a passion! Throughout world history, people have scapegoated their problems onto everyone from the Jews to the homosexuals to the Communists. Well it seems to me that, among people from Generation X, Reality TV and Elmo from "Sesame Street" are tied for the two favorite things to blame their troubles on! Because of how much I have already rambled on in this thread, I will be leaving shortly. However, I am going to try to come back later in the evening to offer you guys some ideas about the impact that Elmo had on making the world a very different place than it was when shows like "Gimme a Break!" were on prime time.
