Default season 8

ME TV is currently showing it. I don't watch the show but I've read the descriptions of a couple episodes in our on-screen listings and it said that Shirley was in a couple. I always thought that Cindy Williams wasn't in the show that season. Did she only do some episodes like Garry Burghoff in his last season of MASH?

Was the eighth season supposed to be set in 1967?

I think it was set between 1959-1967

Should be 1963 since the 1st season was set in 1955 or 1956

Excellent... if the setting is 1963 then the Bob Dylan at a protest rally makes perfect sense, as this was the height of his "finger pointing songs" like "Blowing In The Wind" and other protest folk songs.

Unfortunately, the last season is set in 1967 since the opening credits feature a New Year's Eve banner that states "1967". Per Penny Marshall's autobiography, one of the bigger issues about the move (she wanted the girls to move to NYC, alone) was the 5 year time jump between season 5 and 6. The time jump is also referenced in the S6 episode "Love Out the Window" when they mentioned Laverne's almost-fiance who died in S5--and they said it was five years earlier.

L&S is one of the most confusing sitcoms ever with the time problems. And was it ever said why Shirley just went missing?

I think she left Laverne a letter saying that she had married some guy in the army.

didn't this show only do well because it aired after Happy Days for it's first 5 seasons?

The first episode of S7 had Shirley marry an Army corpsman she'd been dating. They hadn't decided on a real actor to take the part (the character would be away for most of the time) so the groom was bandaged from head to toe due to some allergy issue. Yes, it was quite a lame episode...

Cindy Williams only did one more episode that season since she and the producers went into litigation due to her pregnancy. She wanted time off and didn't accept any of the accommodations that were offered.

I remember vaguely about Shirley getting married. I think the kiss of death for Laverne and Shirley was them moving to Cal. Something just seemed off, no?
