Did anybody catch this ad that aired on CBS? Since the first annual Siper bowl was aired on CBS (along with NBC) and since CBS has broadcasted many Super Bowls since than (with the upcoming 50th annual one), Apparantly CBS thought it was a good idea to air past Super Bowl plugs.

They aired JacieGleason plugging one of the first Super Bowls during the curtain call of the color episode entitled "King of The Castle" I believe.

I didn't see the ad but I overheard it. I am wondering how CBS went about airing the Jackie Gleason footage on their HD feed.

Apparently there has been arguments over the years that the Super Bowl wasn't actually call "Super Bowl" until the 3rd Super Bowl in 1969.

Leave it to "The Jackie Gleason Show" to help debunk this issue.

They would have ran the footage in a standard def feed, but considering that the clip looks like it was converted to b&w (or a filmed version of the videotape was used) and used as part of the television they would have been able to clean it up and do some tweaking. On another forum I belong to there is a poster who works in post-production and he has explained numerous times how you can never make old tape HD but there are ways and means to get the footage cleaned up and looking sharper than before with better definition. My guess that is what was done here, and possible some Live Feed type of work may have been done too.

I want to know what this "Super Bowl Night at the Super Bowl" special that Jackie is mentioned as co-hosting is. That is one of the things I take away from the article!

I agree with Jahebdon --- why were the tapes erased??? (I work with a guy who is a big "everything is a conspiracy" and we like to get him going on things. He believes the first Super Bowl was filmed in the same warehouse as the moon landing and that is why the network's don't have tape of the first Super Bowl and NASA lost the video of the moon landing!!!!!)

Wouldn't be surprised that somewhere sits the film in a canister waiting to be discovered. Just like 100's of films still missing.

There IS a tape of Super Bowl 1. Here's the problem. The NFL lowballed the guy. They offered him 30,000 bucks for it and he wanted a million.Now the tape isnt complete as I think most of the 3rd quarter is missing.

I agree ... Somewhere someone has to have it. Just like the poster above said, a collector apparently has a tape but he wants too much. One of the cable sports channels just recreated some of the broadcast with b roll tape and NBC Radio's coverage.

In 2013 a film collector found a lost Three Stooges MGM short "Hello, Pop!" in his film storage shed. All I know is he is lucky his nitrate film never went up in flames.
