Default Jill was a horrible person

We used to have some long discussions on another forum about all the ways that Jill was a CRAZY BITCH on this show. The ultimate nag, shrewish wife who couldn't cook and was always so self-absorbed and hypocritical. You would think after decades of being a housewife she would have learned to cook by that point. One of the most APPALLING instances was in the first season episode "What About Bob?", where Bob Vila guest stars.

Jill creates a scheme with Tim to cheat (against the pioneer of Home Repair Bob Vila, on Live television no less) on a trivia game. Thankfully it backfired. (And by the way, Tim was no saint either. Check out his extreme rudeness to Bob, whom the audience adored and he's the master of his genre).

Anyways, the real stomach-turning stuff happens with Curtis, the "annoying kid" who comes to visit. Yeah, so the boy might have been slightly annoying as many kids are, but it wasn't worth the horrible treatment she gave him. He probably didn't even realize he was annoying, he's just a kid. Curtis says he doesn't think his mom would let him stay after seeing Randy's room (which I don't get, but whatever). Jill sheepishly tells him "Well....bye". Curtis then points out it's getting dark out and asks for a ride home, which Jill completely ignores.

Um, HELLO?! That poor boy could have sulked on home, and since it's DARK and in FRIGGIN DETROIT, he might have gotten molested and murdered by some sicko. Tim, realizing Jill is being a crazy, lazy bitch, realizes the task of taking Curtis home is now up to him (after already working a full day). Jill then basically condones child murder by telling Tim "Make sure there are air holes in the trunk."

Unbelievable. I feel Jill was a psychotic individual and the thought of her being a psychiatrist later on was very frightening.

And Curtis wasn't even that annoying. So he called out Tim for being accident prone (which he is) and Jill being a bad cook (she was). Big deal, he was just telling it like it was. Actually, I thought he was very polite when he said "MAY I PLEASE have something to drink?" How many kids would ask that politely? He even told his mother that Jill was "very nice.", and was still willing to be friends with Randy after he bullied him. Jill even nearly told him to "shut the eff up".

Sometimes when a person's flaws come out, that is all that anyone can look at even when the good is out there too. The way that you are looking at Jill here, to me, is a good example.

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. To me, the good thing about Jill is that she was there for her family. Some people are sadly not that lucky.

I think Jill was likable. We'll just have to agree to disagree about that.

Just keep telling yourself: It's only a TV show, it's only a TV show.

Agreed. While she might have been naggy at times and couldn't cook, at the end of the day she was always there for Tim and the boys. I don't think any of the reasons mentioned in this thread makes her a "crazy bitch."

Regarding Curtis, while Tim may be accident prone and Jill may be a bad cook, it is not a child's place to disrespect an adult by stating that to them. I also never got the impression that the Taylors lived in a rough area. I believe they lived in one of the nicer suburbs of Detroit, not a ghetto area.

Well, alot of sitcoms are guilty of this stuff. The two men in two and a half men look pretty terrible if you remove the laugh track and just listen to what they say about and around the kid.

I hated Jill! I didn't care for the character or Patricia Richardson. She was boring, frumpy (they dress Jill like an elderly lady), very naggy and whiny. Just not a good match to Tim Allen's character.
