Boy oh boy!!

Seems to be more and more spam being posted,ESPECIALLY ON THIS BASE!!

I think its time we put new members (zero posters) ON MODERATION which means NOTHING THEY POST IS VISIBILE TO ANYONE BUT STAFF UNTIL APPROVED... (After a few posts they usually can be trusted and are added to the reg member group)


I know it will make it harder for you guys on staff but with more and more spam appearing,I dont see any other way....

And TJ if you dont mind I think all moderators should have GLOBAL PRIVLEDGES (So they can delete spam ON ANY BASE)

More and more often I see on the "Welcome our Newest Member" post a meaningless jumble of letters and numbers (Qlp7eVz6k) which I'm 99.999% sure are "bots"which then post their infernal messages. My suggestion is have a "Captcha" password generated for you to type in to keep these bots at bay.

The best thing to do is what we've been doing and that is report the spam when you see it. I would also suggest that you reply to it simply with Reported so that another member won't do it again. The Admins & Mods probably don't care to have a mailbox full of the same spam reports. Also, give it time and it will be dealt with ASAP.

Yeah!! And plus I'm sure you Admins. and Mods notice it too right away!!!! It's like not being able to see an elephant!!!

i think it might be chaos to give all moderators global privileges, most spam is dealt with fairly quickly but there is really no way to keep out the spam bots 100% anyways.

as for "the Riddler" posting all the question marks, I traced the IP to mainland China so I am pretty sure he was a Chinese hacker coming here to steal all of the nuclear secrets we store openly on the site here.

Say JIM wasnt logged on and spam was posted on his base (Movies) and you saw it,YOU COULD DELETE IT


The co-admins are not here often,I think moderators are here more and with all the spam coming now,it would make sense to let everyone get rid of it

Giving mods global privileges would be fine if they didn't try playing actual moderator on boards they weren't originally assigned to. For example, as a global mod I would gladly get rid of spam on the Unsolved Mysteries board at 4am and leave it at that. Anything else and Crystal Dawn will have my head on a platter.

The current system works fine. It helps when people report posts. Janice, Pavan and I all receive them plus the moderators of the individual boards. We try to take care of things quickly. Please only report a spammer once if they have multiple threads. We mass delete all posts by them. Most spammers are humans and not bots. There is a captcha when you register plus a security question (which is changed often). There are no bots registering and posting spam. Most of the spam happens overnight, so there's not much we can do while people are sleeping.

I don't think moderating new members would help. It might be a major turn-off for them to wait possibly hours for their posts to appear. We have always wanted to make it as easy as possible to start posting.
