From what I've heard about Pat Harrington, he was not one to turn down money.

Why would this commercial be made if ODAAT was off the air?

I can't tell if you're criticizing or just stating a fact, but either way, isn't that true about everybody ever born?

A lot of successful actors don't want to be perceived as lowering themselves to do commercials.

But as I said, Pat Harrington was known to be obsessed with money. He was a big player in the stock market and would talk about money constantly. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

His character was still well known thanks to the show's reruns. Using Schneider was no different than any other popular character being used long after the TV show originally aired, or movie played in the theater.

Heck, Tom Wopat, John Schneider and other Dukes Of Hazzard actors have reprized their roles for recent TV commercials.

George Clooney does Nespresso commercials. Julia Louis Dreyfus does Old Navy. Jerry Seinfeld did American Express. And so on. As you said, if someone's offering, nothing wrong with taking.
