For TV shows in general I'd say the 1950s to the 1990s. Things went downhill FAST after two shows called Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Survivor came on the scene.

I will admit things are looking a bit brighter these past couple of years, with the various Superhero shows becoming popular. But I'l have to wait until i get them on DVD before I can affirm this (I've grown attached to watching my shows at the rate of 0 hours per minute of commercials!)

The 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's had great sitcoms!

I can't even watch sitcoms now...they're all dumb! I tried to watch them, but almost all modern sitcoms has bland characters!

The 50s and 60s were great the 70s and 80s hit or miss and the 90s to the present except for a few gems mostly blew chunks.

There were several good shows in the 50's through the mid-00's IMHO. I don't watch any of them now; I do watch some drama series like Blue Bloods. The last sitcoms I watched with any regularity were probably Everybody Loves Raymond, Seinfeld and The King of Queens.

Definitely the '70s! Norman Lear was revolutionizing the medium with "All In The Family" (and its spinoffs)!

For sitcoms, the 70's by far. For overall...the 50's had some great drama like Playhouse 90 and great westerns, too. I think the variety of television was better in the 50's and 60's; they had night time game shows, variety like Sullivan, etc.

Today the variety show is dead, likewise westerns (for the most part) and the idea of real stage drama is gone for good. Also no real game shows at night, either. I'd make an argument that the sitcom is dead, too, though I know many would argue that point.
