Default Do you hate it when stores ask you to donate money?

i hate it when you go to store like wal mart or target then they go would you like to donate money to this charity!! im all for charities but i don't trust giving them to the stores cause you never know if their going to keep the money for the store or if their going to keep it for themselves!! i also hate it when they go would you like to sing up for our rewards card !!

I don't like it either. I'm very capable of picking my own charities and find this ploy offensive as well.

The rewards cards don't bother me as much; but I hate it when they try to get you to sign up for their credit card by offering you a one time discount.

They try to make you feel guilty if you say no.

They don't make me feel guilty. I contribute quite a bit to organizations I CHOOSE and don't need some store to to tell me what to contribute to.

If anyone working at a store had the nerve to question me, I'd just tell them what they could go do - politely BUT VERY FIRMLY.

I hate that too. I also hate it when you order take out food from a restaurant like Denny's and they ask you if you want to tip. Many times they do it when other people are waiting in line to embarass you if you say no. GEEZ! I don't mind tippuing when I sit down at a table, but when it's take out, I don't see the need in it. Mcdonalds doesn't ask for a tip when I take out food there.

It doesn't bother me at all. They can ask all they want, but in the end it is up to me to say Yes or No. Plus I will most likely never see these people outside a cashier to customer interaction so it doesn't matter to me at all.

Thumbs up

I do this:

Let's say I purchase $29.55 worth of merchandise in cash, and they ask me to donate to a charity. I'll tell them to donate the change to charity.

About 4 years ago, I almost got tricked into applying for a credit card at Kohl's that way. It was a new store in my area and I had never been to a Kohl's before. The cashier asked me if I wanted to apply for a "discount" card. I thought they had a shopper's reward card so I said yes. Then I realized she meant a credit card so I said no. It made me so angry. The last thing I need is a department store credit card.

I know. I partcularly hate that too. Yeah, you get that one time discount but then if you begin to use the card, it's one more payment to remember-and I hate late fees and risks to my credit rating-so I just keep it simple and just use my one credit card-an Amex. But loyalty cards, that are not credit cards, I do apply for.
