I've found out some very tragic news that Lemmy Kilmister, the legendary frontman of British band Motorhead, has died at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by drummer Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor the other week. He had a series of health problems which forced the band to cancel certain dates across America in the past few months.
Lemmy was known to be a hard-driving, hard-rocking road warrior with a gruff voice and loud bass. His career goes back all the way to when he was a roadie for the Jimi Hendrix Experience and member of space-rock band Hawkwind. Forty years ago, he founded rough-edged band Motorhead which lasted for decades with a revolving lineup and uncompromising sound on songs such as "Ace Of Spades", "Iron Fist", and many others. |

Rest in peace, Lemmy. He seemed like a decent guy, but I must admit that I never liked the Motorhead music. Still, Lemmy inspired a lot of people, and I respect that.
RIP, Lemmy |

There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family. We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words. We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD. Have a drink or few. Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself. HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT. Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister 1945 -2015 Born to lose, lived to win. |

I never realized he was that old. And if I did read this I forgot about it, although I have vague recent memories of news reports about his failing health.
I've got to get more Motorhead tunes than this. |

The day after Lemmy's death, Motörhead's drummer Mickey Dee confirmed that Motörhead will not continue as a band, stating: "Motörhead is over, of course. Lemmy was Motörhead," adding: "We won't be doing any more tours or anything. And there won't be any more records. But the brand survives, and Lemmy lives on in the hearts of everyone."
Two days after Lemmy's death, Phil Campbell, Motörhead's guitarist, also stated: "Motörhead is no longer." |
