Default DVD Request: "Gilligan's Island: The Complete First Season--IN COLOR"

Dear Mr. Ted Turner,

I have a proposal for Warner Bros. Home Entertainment: to release a brand-new DVD Compilation titled "Gilligan's Island: The Complete First Season--IN COLOR," showcasing all 36 Colorized half-hour episodes of the debut season of the hit '60s sitcom "Gilligan's Island" complete, uncut, AND unedited, just the way that they originally aired on the CBS Television Network.

Created by Sherwood Schwartz, "Gilligan's Island" centered on 7 Stranded Castaways on an uncharted South Pacific island, among them Willy Gilligan (Bob Denver), who 2nd only to his Skipper, Jonas Grumby (Alan Hale, Jr.), was the sole crew member onboard the S.S. Minnow; Thurston Howell III (Jim Backus), a wealthy Millionaire, and his wife, Lovey (Natalie Schafer); Ginger Grant (Tina Louise), a Movie Star; Roy Hinkley (Russell Johnson), a high-school science teacher known as The Professor; and Mary Ann Summers (Dawn Wells), an ordinary girl.

The series had a 3-year tour on the CBS Television Network from September 26, 1964 - April 17, 1967. It would have had a 4th if not for the fact that then-current CBS President Mike Dann LOVED "Gunsmoke" and insisted that "Gunsmoke" remain in production (which it did for another 8 years). As a result, the Castaways on "Gilligan's Island" went home--PERMANENTLY--to Syndication Heaven, as well as 3 reunion telefilms and several crossovers.

Among the Bonus Features that shall be included on this DVD Compilation include the original pilot, "Marooned" (ALSO COLORIZED), as well as the 3 reunion telefilms; the ALF Crossover episode "The Ballad of Gilligan's Island"; and the "Growing Pains" episode titled "This Is Your Life," with Alan Hale, Jr. reprising his role of the Skipper while in real life battling Cancer.

Tentatively, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment shall release "Gilligan's Island: The Complete First Season--IN COLOR" on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at a cost of ONLY $19.99 wherevere DVDs are sold.

Sincerely,
Danny Hooley

All that for 20 bucks. I don't see it. I'd be happy with just the colourised episodes.

Cool Yes to Buying, No to Buying the OLD colorization

Anyone who has seen my colorized related posts in the I Love Lucy or Andy Griffith Show sections here knows of my total love of colorization. So I would agree with 1/2 of what's said here, that I would love to be able to buy the 1st season of Gilligan colorized. BUT I want them to RE-colorize this first season using today's modern 2015 colorization technology, where if it were redone today the quality would be perfect looking. However the existing colorized Gilligan was colorized back in the infant stages of colorization when the process was not perfected and, frankly when colorization got it's bad reputation amongst all the b/w clingers that refuse to even allow others to love colorization. Today's colorization is a vast improvement over the early 1987 and 1988 colorized jobs, Gilligan does need to be colorized and available for sale BUT it must be RE-colorized and then go up for sale. I want to see Gilligan looking at it's best in color and the old colorization of this show is really pretty bad.

I agree with you 100%. Re-colorized using 2015 technology OF COURSE!

I really don't like the colorized versions, I'd much rather see it in the original version. I'd be curious to see it recolorized today though, I'm sure it would look a lot better than the Turner version

Wish they would re-colorize Season 1, I'd buy that in a heart beat. Wonder whom you could contact at WB to urge that to be done?

Improved-yes. "Perfected"-not. I have nothing against them recolorizing anything as long as the BWs are still available. I have yet to see a show where colorizing improved my viewing experience, but for those who like it, I won't stand in their way
And while they are at it, they could replace Hazel's voice with one that doesn't make my head feel like a railroad spike is being driven through
