Fox will once again be spending the summer in "Wayward Pines".

Nearly five months after its freshman run ended, the twisty drama has been renewed for a second season, the network announced Wednesday.



“Wayward Pines was a huge hit for us this past summer. We were absolutely blown away by the mysterious and surprising world that M. Night Shyamalan and his team created, and the twisting-and-turning storytelling that drew viewers in from Day One,” said Fox President of Entertainment David Madden in a statement.

“Season Two is going to take the suspense, the vision of the future and the haunting character drama to whole new levels, and we can’t wait for our fans to continue that ride next year.”



Set to premiere in Summer 2016, "Wayward Pines‘" second season will pick up where its first go-round left off, when a new arrival in the titular town finds himself in the middle of a serious rebellion, as the residents battle over how to preserve the endangered human race.

Jason Patric To Headline "Wayward Pines" Season 2

Jason Patric is on his way to "Wayward Pines".

The show’s sophomore run will pick up where Season 1 left off, when a new arrival in the titular Idaho town finds himself in the middle of a serious rebellion, as the residents, led by the bratty First Generation, battle over how to preserve the endangered human race.

Patric will play said newcomer: Dr. Theo Yedlin, a confident, driven surgeon whose leadership skills become invaluable to Wayward Pines’ residents.




“Jason is an incredibly grounded and believable actor,” said executive producer M. Night Shyamalan in a statement. “I’m so excited for audiences to see what he brings to the world of Wayward Pines.”

Djimon Hounsou Cast in Season Two of "Wayward Pines"

Two-time Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou will bring his stern presence to Season 2 of "Wayward Pines" this summer, Fox announced Wednesday.

Hounsou will play CJ Mitchum, a historian for the town of Wayward Pines who knows a lot about its complex origins. He joins previously-announced Season 2 star Jason Patric.

"Wayward Pines" Adds Kacey Rohl and Nimrat Kaur for Season

Kacey Rohl (Hannibal) and Nimrat Kaur (Homeland) will co-star opposite Jason Patric and Djimon Hounsou in the second installment of Fox’s psychological thriller event series "Wayward Pines".

Rohl will play Kerry Campbell, described as a tough and unflappable part of the new Wayward Pines brain trust.

Kaur will play Rebecca, Theo’s wife, a successful architect.

He will play Mario, described as bulked up and self-important, he is one of Kerry Campbell’s soldiers, wearing a uniform and carrying weapons.

Carla Gugino To Return to Fox Drama "Wayward Pines" for Season 2

Look who’s (maybe?) been defrosted. Carla Gugino will return to Fox’s "Wayward Pines" for Season 2, TVLine has confirmed.

Fans of the Fox drama will recall that Gugino’s character, former federal agent Kate, was cryogenically frozen by the First Generation brats during the season-ending three-year time jump.

Gugino will likely appear in a limited capacity, given she recently booked a series regular role on Showtime’s Cameron Crowe rock drama "Roadies".

Melissa Leo Returns for "Wayward Pines" Season 2

Melissa Leo and Carla Gugino have booked a return trip to "Wayward Pines" for season 2, EW has learned.

The second season will pick up in the wake of the events of the finale, in which the adults got out from under David Pilcher’s (Toby Jones) reign only to be frozen in time again by the First Generation of children — the fate met by both former Secret Service Agent Kate Hewson (Gugino) and Pilcher’s sister, Pam (Leo).



Details on their returns are being kept under wraps, but both will guest-star in at least one episode early in the season. Gugino first teased her return on Twitter Wednesday.

M. Night Shyamalan’s Fox series "Wayward Pines" will kick off its second season on May 25 and will air in the Wednesday, PM hour.

"Empire" star Terrence Howard, who was first recruited by Fox and 20th TV for the first season of the summer supernatural thriller, paving the way for his casting in the network and studio’s mega hit hip-hop drama, will return for Season 2, reprising his role as Sheriff Arnold Pope.

Also returning in their original characters are Hope Davis (Megan Fisher), Toby Jones (Dr. Jenkins/David Pilcher), Shannyn Sossamon (Theresa Burke), Tim Griffin (Adam Hassler), Charlie Tahan (Ben Burke), as well as Melissa Leo (Nurse Pam), Carla Gugino (Kate Hewson) and Tom Stevens (Jason Higgins).
