They are releasing so many series on DVD, and I can't believe they are not releasing TBH. We need a complete series release and I know the demand is there.

When it comes to TV on DVD, CBS is horrible.
I would also love to see the complete series of TBH be released, along with Petticoat Junction. Although not a CBS title (but still a Paul Henning creation), I'd LOVE to see Green Acres completed on DVD. |

I am surprised that Shout Factory has not taken this one on. Shout Factory has been really quiet now with those great complete series box releases. Shame….I got a coupon and never used it because there wasn't anything I was interested in….

^I think Shout! is taking a short break to see if the series sets they took on pays off before they release anymore.

Honestly, I love TBH but I don't really want to own it on Blu-ray. I'd be completely satisfied with the complete series being released on DVD.
CBS....hear us now! |

I saw this explanation on the Wikipedia page for Filmways, inc. Filmways was the production company that produced TBH. Maybe the public domain issue, and who clearly owns copyrights, is the reason why we haven't seen a TBH complete series release?
""CBS holds distribution rights to The Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction. Viacom (the parent of CBS from 1999-2005, actually started as CBS’ syndication arm) syndicated these two programs since the 1970s. In the case of Hillbillies, Orion Television (now an in-name-only unit of MGM) still owns the copyrights to the episodes, excluding episodes from the first season and the first half of the second season, which have fallen into the public domain. However, any new compilation of Hillbillies material will be copyrighted by either MPI Media Group or CBS, depending on the series content." |

I'd like to see the rest released too! But don't get your hopes up. This is the same thing what CBS did to Happy Days.Released the first 6 seasons and stopped. Unlikely we'll ever see a complete release

This seems very problematic. While I would love to see Shout! or VEI or anybody release a complete series set of TBH, it sounds like the rights things are tangled up and nobody truly knows who owns it. Kinda like with the 1966 "Batman". But that got resolved. It's either CBS or MGM that owns TBH? Don't lose hope, a complete set will probably happen soon.

Apparently, MGM owns the copyright, while CBS has distribution rights.

An official first season set has FINALLY been released recently. It's available at Walmart and elsewhere including online. Of course it was long passed over for fear that all the many public domain versions out there would undercut it's sales but it's good to see we can now have top quality prints of this historic season.

Shout! Factory needs to start buying CBS titles (TBH, Petticoat Junction, & Happy Days) and treating them with the respect they deserve.
There's no reason this show shouldn't be completed on DVD by now. |
