AMA wants to ban ads for prescription drugs
According to http://tvnewscheck.com The American Medical Association wants to see ads for prescription drugs banned. They cite the negative impact of commercially driven promotions and the role marketing plays in the role of escalating drug prices
I think all of you know why I gave up on b"appointment TV nine years ago, thanks to age inappropriate commercials played at times when children are watching. .In 1971 commercials were banned from TV (During the 1971 New Year's Day Festivities (That's Parades and Football Games for those of you in Rio Linda!) it seemed every other ad was for cigarettes, since this was the last time they'd be on). The tobacco companies didn't put up a legal fight when their ads were banned, so IMO prescription drug Commercials should be banned. PS. with my luck if such a ban was enacted, the commercials that would replace them would be EVEN WORSE!

I wouldn't object. I see too many pill commercials. Bring back coffee, chewing gum, beauty products, cereal, toys, cars and toothpaste commercials. 90% of the ads now are for old age gadgets and ailments. Makes you think in years you be a candidate for the items. I hate to grow old.

I certainly hope they get rid of the Viagra ads. I find it very uncomfortable when I'm over at my Dad's place watching TV with him and an ad about erectile dysfunction comes on.

I hope that happens. Yes some of the ads are a bit embarrassing when you are sitting with company watching TV. Plus when they list the side effects they are worse than the reason you are taking the medication. "Gee my skin has cleared up but now I have a fatal brain disease." Take the ads off!
