The Seahawks are too good for their own good in primetime.

Al Michaels explains why Seahawks almost never get home night games
By John Breech | CBSSports.com
November 15, 2015 12:43 pm ET

When the Seahawks host the Cardinals on Sunday night, it will mark only the second time since 2013 that Seattle's gotten the chance to host a Sunday Night Football game.

The Sunday night slot generally goes to two successful teams -- and the Seahawks have been highly successful since 2012 -- so that begs the question, why don't they get more home primetime games?

Apparently, it's because they're too good at home.

NBC's Al Michaels, who will be announcing Sunday's Seattle-Arizona game, says the NFL got tired of putting the Seahawks in primetime because they were blowing everyone out.

"I wish that we had more games in Seattle, but I think we're reduced now to one a year," Michaels said told KIRO-AM n Seattle. "They were afraid for so many years that the Seahawks were so dominant at home. When the league was looking at the schedule, they always want to have compelling games on a Sunday night and the Seahawks were victims, I think, of their own success because they were blowing everybody out 42-3."

No one wants to watch a blowout, and Michaels is right. That's almost exactly what happens every time the Seahawks host a home primetime game.

Since Russell Wilson was drafted in 2012, the Seahawks are 6-0 at home in primetime and they've outscored their opponents by more than 100 points (168-61). The last time the Seahawks played at home in Sunday night was a 29-3 win over San Francisco in Week 2.

Of course, the Seahawks have done a better job of keeping things interesting this season. Seattle hosted a primetime game against the Lions in week 4 and didn't blow Detroit out (13-10). As a matter of fact, that was one of the craziest games of the season thanks to a Calvin Johnson fumble and a batted ball.

If the Seahawks (4-4) play another close game against Arizona (6-2) on Sunday, there's a good chance Seattle could get a few more primetime home games in 2016.

So, in other words, the Seahawks haven't been getting many primetime games lately because the primetimers have been one-sided games on their end instead of the dogfights that primetimers are usually expected to be? That's just what I take from this.

I don't think no one minds a blow out if it's their team who is winning
