Default Did you like "In the Heat of the Night" Carroll O'Connor show?

Is anyone a fan of Carrol O'Connor's show In the Heat of the Night? I was watching it with my older mother since it came on around lunchtime on a cable channel. My mother said she never watched it when it was first on but liked it now.

I like O'Connor's character Chief Gillespie, more or less I like O'Connor, in that he is an excellent actor who did an iconic role, which plays a totally different character and feels like a totally different character.

Opinions?

I love In the Heat of the night! I liked Carrol O'Connor better as Sheriff Gillespie than as Archie Bunker!

Yes, I watched it with my parents when I was a kid. Bubba was my favorite. I watch it sometimes now if I happen to catch a favorite episode. I read that a new version of the show is being made.

This show is proof of how talented Carroll O Connor really is. He and Henry Winkler are my two favorite actors. The reason I like them so much is that they are two totally different people from the characters they portray namely Archie Bunker and The Fonz. O Connor as a southern sheriff is absolutely great. He makes you think he is Gillespie or Bunker. Heat of The Night is a great show not one of my all time favorites but great none the less.

It showed what range he had. I prefered him as the sheriff than Archie Bunker.

I do like the show too! O' Connor is definitely better in, In The Heat Of The Night, Than All In The Family

I've only watched a few episodes of it but thought it was okay. I like him better in All in the Family.

I considered it typical Hollywood liberal propaganda and had no use for it.

I watched it a few times and I like Carroll O'Connor in dramatic roles but I never really got into it the way I did NYPD Blue

In All in the Family, Carroll was much louder and spoke faster. In Heat his speak was so much slower.

That's because the character in The Heat of The Night was from the south. In most of the southern states they speak slower, it's part of the southern draw they have. I also think it's because they have a more relaxed way of life, or at least that's my take. It's quite refreshing , I think. I love the southern accents.
