Seriously though, I wonder how much legal stuff there is to go through when changing your surname? My great-great-great-great-grandfather altered the family name of Whisenhunt to Hunt sometime in the mid-late 1800's. His 4 brothers retained the original spelling so I'm related to families with both names though I have never met any of the Whisenhunt descendants.

well that was stupid - he should have just got it legally changed to "THE HOFF" if he was going to go to all that trouble
