i used to had to choose between two shows sometimes- like China Beach and Quantum Leap or on Saturdays On Scene: Emergency Response or Hee Haw that used to really tear me up about which show to watch!

The Advent of the VCR in the 1970s did away with having to choose between two shows that were programmed opposite each other (Ads for VCRs detailed how you could record one show while watching another). It heralded the demise of "Appointment TV". Today more people record a show to watch later than stick around to watch "live".
PS. Many of the shows I have in my collection are ones that aired opposite each other when they originally aired!

, the latter because few, if any shows I like get picked, and even if one gets picked, some obscure foreign-made feature will get the award instead! ![]() I remember, as a kid watching the Sunday Football games. They usually lasted between 2-21/2 hours, and the remainder of the allotted time would be used to have a game recap. Now, a game lasts three hours or more. Sorry, I have better things to watch, although I'll still watch the Super Bowl and cheer (or boo) the commercials.
