Tony winner Steve Kazee (Shameless, Broadway’s Once) has been cast as Riff, a former country star who turned away from the business for the good of his family, our sister site Deadline reports. Per the site, Riff had Luke Wheeler-equivalent fame a decade ago (successful tours, lots of hits, armies of fans) but gave it all up when he fell in love with Heidi, an aspiring country-music artist herself.
