Jason Thompson Has Announced he's Leaving "General Hospital"

Sadly, it appears that Dr. Drake's rounds are over on "General Hospital".

Jason Thompson, who has played Dr. Patrick Drake on the ABC soap for 10 years, announced the news on Instagram on Friday.

His Full Statement:

"I have made the difficult decision to bid farewell to a character I've loved playing for over 10 years. It was not an easy decision but I feel it's time to hang up Dr. Patrick Drake's white coat and scrubs.

I want to thank Frank Valentini, Vicki Drummer and Paul Lee for their support and appreciate their understanding. To everyone at ABC, the GH crew, producers, writers, directors, my beloved cast mates and those in my home away from home, the make-up room, I can't possibly begin to tell you what you all mean to me.

Most importantly, I would like to thank the fans. GH changed my life and I have you to thank for that. I am forever grateful for your love and support and for embracing me and this character all these years.

I mean these words from the bottom of my heart: GH is family to me and I will miss you all dearly."

I hope the rumors are true that he will be stepping into the role of Billy on Y&R.

Great news! I NEVER warmed up to Burgess Jenkins in the role. I've disliked Billy since he joined the cast, but I have a feeling that will change with Jason taking over.
