Default Esther Rolle's Gravesite

I was a big Good Times fan growing up as a kid in Boston. I now live in Pompano Beach, where Esther Rolle grew up and lived in her later years. In fact, there's an Esther Rolle Blvd. in Pompano Beach, which was the street she lived on that the city named after her in honor of her accomplishments.

Anyway, one of my hobbies is researching the grave sites of famous people. For instance, Rocky Marciano is buried nearby in Fort Lauderdale. Esther Rolle is buried here in Pompano Beach in a tiny cemetery off a major intersection. I hate to say it, but the cemetery is in HORRIBLE disrepair. I don't know why, but the caskets are not buried 6 feet under in this particular cemetery. Rather, they're encased in concrete and buried just below the surface, with a concrete "casket top" still above the surface, with a plaque bearing the name of the deceased. Esther Rolle is buried in a family plot next to a number of other Rolle's.

Does anybody know why some cemetery's bury people in this manner? I'm not kidding when I say the cemetery looks almost like a war-zone. I think it's sad that one of the most influential Black actresses of the 20th century is laid to rest in such poor conditions.

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Matt

How sad to hear this. I thought she was buried in a beautiful type cemetary. With a beautiful granite stone. I have no answers for you but, I would like to know the answers to your questions myself.

That is really heartbreaking to hear that her gravesite is in terrible condition.

You should take a picture of it and post it on findagrave.com. They have a ton of gravesites of the famous and infamous!
