there's been a lot of speculation as to where the Clampetts were from-well, I just read on IMDB.COM that in a 1971 episode it was said they're from Tennessee. Of course IMDB is frequently wrong so you can safely choose not to believe that.

That was probably from one of the final season episodes, at the very end of the series with Mike Minor -- whose character takes on the Crockett name (among many others) to make Granny believe he was from Tennessee.
Anyway, the Moses part of the family was from Tennessee, and "Granny" Daisy Moses frequently mentioned her heritage from that state -- and referred to herself as an MD: "Mountain Doctor." As far as which state the Clampetts were from, it's never specified on the series. |

yea, I know but I just thought I'd mention that.
As far as the state it's probably Missouri because in one of the episodes where they go back home to Bug Tussle they mention the town of Branson being nearby. |

I think it is Missouri. In one of the final seasons they go to Silver Dollar City in Branson. I always thought that was cool since we would go to the Silver Dollar City in Pigeon Forge TN which is now Dollywood.

There never was a specific state or location provided at least that was actually real. Series creator Paul Henning was from independence, Missouri. His wife, Ruth, was from central Missouri and the show filmed episodes in Silver Dollar City a theme park near Branson Missouri in 1969. "Petticoat Junction" was loosely based on real people from central Missouri, but as for The Beverly Hillbillies, that was never clear.

Also, while on a similar subject, what was the explanation of the Clampetts being connected with Hooterville? |

I once had a trivia book that claimed that the Clampetts were from West Virginia. Don't know if it's true or not.
