Thumbs down Internet/Cable/Phone Too Expensive to keep

Hi everyone, I simply can no longer afford my Xfinity/Comcast bill. I called and spoke with the loyalty department. $191.96 is just too much. So my internet, cable and home phone will be disconnected. I have to bring the equipment to the nearest Comcast store location. I tried to get them to lower the price, without any luck. They claim I'm getting the best deal they have.

I just wanted to say I have really enjoyed my 13 years here at SO. I will miss this place. People have been kind and I appreciate it. Because of this place I have a best friend which is so great.

Take Care everyone.

Have you asked about internet only? You can get that and use a service such as Vonage for your phone.

I agree. You should see what the price would be for internet only, or check another provider for just internet. Comcast is really taking advantage of its customers big time these days, and I think it's going to backfire on them. People are getting sick of it, and getting rid of cable altogether.

You could lower the cable by looking at what tier you're on and eliminating channels you can do without. That price is ridiculous but there are ways to lower it regardless of Comcrap says.

I'm sorry that you have to go because of cable and phone prices going too high...

I agree. I have Comcast but by eliminating channels the price will go down. There are also other internet providers around that are cheaper.

I agree.

Tomorrow we are dropping CenturyLink Prism because they keep raising their rates. We are going back to Cox. What I hate is that you have to sign up for a 2 year contract. Then after that the rates go up and that is when you have to keep calling these companies and try to get your bill down. I have said it before, I would drop cable completely but mom wants her Hallmark channels.

I'd check on the price of Internet only-I don't have cable and pay about $76-still a lot if you ask me just for Internet. Another possibility is to see if your local library has free computers- my city does and you can sign up for free sessions and log onto SO from there.

I may ditch AT&T since I owe so much debt to people.

I'm 39.2% of the Clevelanders that is under poverty. Looks like debt psy is far more important than luxuries and getting a car.

FamilyTies, I understand where your coming from. Would you be able to post from a library like I do? Believe me I know where your coming from. I got rid of internet when my computer broke down. I've had the bill lowered by getting rid of the modem, cable box etc. Is their anyway you could pay half of the bill now and see if they can work with you as to when to pay the other half? I'm not saying it would work but its worth a shot.

That is a lot for just Internet, we only pay $34, granted it all has to do with what service plan, company, etc.

I know it's a ripoff but Time Warner seems to be the only carrier around.

Sorry to hear about your problem with the cable/phone/internet expense. They really do charge too much. Have you thought about getting a pay as you go Tracfone. I have one & it runs me about $10.00 a month, it's just a basic cell phone that you buy those minute cards for. My mother has dish network for her tv and it's somewhat cheaper than cable. But to have high speed internet you'd probably have to keep the comcast for that. You could compare the prices and see how it goes.
