Here's what baffles me:

On Pavan's "Jack's Bistro", it says that "A Hundred Dollars a What?" was recorded on October 31, 1980. But, it turns out it was actually October 21. In addition, I saw two taping tickets that were dated Sunday October 19 ("And Justice for Jack") and Friday October 31 ("A Hundred Dollars a What?").

Wonder what happened? Did those two tape dates get cancelled at the last minute? I know that from Seasons 1-4 and 8, the main tapings were on Friday nights, and from seasons 5-7, they were on Tuesday nights.

No, per Mann's book, they scrapped an episode intended to tape on 10/21 due to Somers.

This listing has just confirmed that the episode in question was "A Hundred Dollars A What?" and it was rescheduled for the 31st and indeed taped.

Vahan, did you purchase this? If so, I'm so jealous! Really cool find, regardless.

No, it is too expensive for me. I'd imagine this for any television or film script in general.

Yeah, I found a TC script (signed by Joyce DeWitt) on eBay today for "Mighty Mouth," and it's $250. Too rich for my blood.

Looking at the script, when Jack was on the phone with his mom and Janet was trying to distract him, did John and Joyce personally add Janet's character pulling the phone away from Jack as he was talking?

Probably. Joyce has said that John would have ideas to improvise funny physical stuff and they'd all rehearse it ahead of time. I think Joyce tried to do some physical humor, too, but the producers generally tried to squash her ideas since the slapstick was what John was great at.

That is a super funny moment, though, so I'm glad it made it into the episode.

I remember interviews with Joyce and Jenilee where both said that tapings were done on Fridays. I've never heard about any other day.

That "Sunday October 19" or "Tuesday October 21" would be a surprise to me.

According to Mann's book, there was an actor's strike in the fall of 1980. Production was already behind schedule. To catch up, they taped ep1 Upstairs, Downstairs, Upstairs on October 14 and started rehearsing for And Justice for Jack on Oct 15 to tape on Sunday, October 19. That Sunday Somers called in sick and they shot without her. They also were rushing to film 100 Dollars a What? on Tues Oct 21 to continue playing catch-up after actor strike. Suzanne was again a no-show. She did not return until Oct 30, and her final full show was filmed oct 31.

I actually support Somers' idea of getting a piece of the back-end syndication profits. All three actors should have, and it's much more common today. The three of them should have banded together, a la Friends, and DEMANDED it. They would have gotten it too, because ABC and Taffner couldn't have done the show without them.

But if I had been one of her colleagues, I would have wanted to kill her the way she was disrupting production.
