Default Slow robbers!!!!!!

Was it just me or were you guys thinking the same as me? It sure took a long time to rob that little sporting goods store!!! Seemed like they could have had it done in much shorter of time!!! Esp. with three of them, and lots of witnesses locked in a store room, you'd think they would get it done more quickly !!!

Also, where was Alex ? Not that I'm complaining or anything, being I'm not really a big fan of Alex. But a birthday party with a cake and hats and the kid wasn't invited? Also where was Mark? At this point he and Barbara were dating steady right? And Bob, looks like he didn't marry Claudia Faraday after all!!!

It was an entertaining ep, but pretty silly really! Why not just wait till Barbara got home to have the party!!! Why bring the party to her job at the end of her shift at closing time? And again it was weird Alex wasn't included with no explanation! Mark I could see ,maybe he was too busy with dental school or whatever that night, but what was up with Alex not being there?

I sense, but can't prove, tonight's 2 were filmed pre Mark. But they are being shown in original airdate order. Alex, who knows?

Scenes from the birthday are in the opening credits of season 7,in episodes before Mark. And Barbara just looks younger tonight. I think they were holdovers.

Maybe the writers left Alex out of this episode. He was just a kid, what purpose would it have served for him to be in the episode, then be held hostage with the adults during the hold up at the store? No, this just wasn't an Alex episode.

Yea, the robbers were slow, but this was a TV show, they had 25 minutes to fill in. In real life it wouldn't take that long. They'd take what they want and leave as quick as possible.

And how about the robbers, did they ever get caught, or did they just get away with it? Unless something was mentioned about it in a later episode, I guess we just assume they got away with it?

Yeah!! I could see where the writers would think this wasn't a kid friendly ep. so that is why he wasn't in it!!!

But what I'm saying in real life, he would have been the first one there! What if you were 12 or13 and a little surprise birthday party was going on for someone in your family (or in this case a family that took you in) at her job , and you weren't invited??? Also , like I said it was silly they even had the surprise party there, being the shop was closing for the day and her shift was over! I could see if she had a job where she was working through the night, and they surprised her with a little party on her meal break or something! If she couldn't be home for her birthday!

They should have at least mentioned maybe Alex being away visiting his mother or or something. Kind of like on a Leave it to Beaver ep. The Cleavers went on a picnic with the Rutherfords, and Wally went but Lumpy didn't and it never was explained where he was? But as a writing stand point, he wouldn't have fit, cause than they would have needed two cars to go, and one of the main points of the story was Fred made his little girl Violet sit on Beaver's lap in the car cause there were seven people , which he hated!!!

Original air date for "Dinner at Seven" when Mark debuts is Dec.29,1981 ,and "Stick' em up" the original air date is January 24, 1982! ! Barbara was turning 20, so she was supposed to be born in 1962! The year I was born .But Valerie is older than that! She was really born in 1960!

Plus they aren't being consistent , because the show started in1975 and she was supposed to be 15 right? Her real age .Now suddenly she is only 20 in 1982! She should have been 22 at that point! ???

That's easy to explain. Characters don't have to age at the same rate as the actors. And actors aren't necessarily the age of their characters. I mentioned somewhere Michael Lembeck was 31 when he first appeared on the show. Do you feel Max was supposed to be 31 at the wedding? I felt he was younger.

And to answer the original question, having never robbed the local sporting goods store, I'm not sure. I'll give it a try and get back to you.

I don't know why the robber were still there either, all they had to do was say they were locking them in the room. And we never had to see them again.
It was basically a plot device that a lot of shows in the 70s/80s used.
I remember Jack Tripper and Mr. Furley getting locked in the freezer, and the The Happy Days gang (including The Fonz) were locked in the Backroom of the Hardware store.
Ironically robbers showed up and accidentally let them out...lol
I think Mr. C and Jonie were trapped in the Hardware Store at some point also.
