Default Alex on the show...

I never understood why the writers wrote in Alex and much less let him move in with Ann and Barbara if Ann was no longer dating Nick. I never liked that character and it didn't do anything or add anything to the show other than make it even more boring. Never cared for Nick or Alex's character on the show..

Totally agree!!! But at least now they are bringing back Julie and Max, getting back to the family more. Last season was a snoozer when it focused on Nick and Alex so much!!! (I wish we had a yawning emoticon here)!!!

I guess for the show, Ann felt sorry for him. A little boy that just lost his Father and he got used to that apartment building and new school and friends in Indianapolis and took him in! Didn't seem like his Mother cared much for him huh?!!

What episode shows that Nick died and how did he die? I don't recall seeing that one.. Probably because I really never cared for the character, but for him to die off, that was just weird.

It didn't!!!!! It was just between seasons!!! The last ep of the season was David coming to visit Ann, and he saw she and Nick were together. Than the new season starts, and there is a call from Alex's mother to Ann frantic that he ran away from home ,and a brief conversation between Ann and Barbara about Nick being killed by a drunk driver!!! Than Alex shows up in the apt. and indeed he did run away to Ann's! It was strange, not very emotional. But like I said it was between seasons ,so I guess Nick was supposed to have been killed a while ago!!!

Sometimes I'm glad I have seen this show in years, since I think my memory makes the show in some ways more interesting. For some reason I picture Alex living in a hole in the wall of the apartment.

OMG!!! Like do you mean like a horror movie scenario ? Like him living there hiding out and they don't know he's there? Like wasn't there a movie in the 70's like that called Bad Ronald or Weird Ronald or something? I remember he was a boy that lived behind the wall in a house undetected or something?

I mentioned this in another thread....could care less about Nick & Alex...both seemed annoying to me, Alex more so...

It was strange the way they introduced the fact that Nick had passed on...has it ever been documented anywhere just why they kicked him out, between seasons at that!! and left viewers to 'figure' it all out on their own? And yes, Alex taking up residence with Ann & Barbara was weird...especially in the episode before, she smacked the heck outta him and he was being a giant brattadon...who would want him to move in? It isn't like he didn't have a family, heck, he had Betty Anderson for a mom

IDK!!! I'm thinking low ratings? I asked a similar question the other day somewhere on these threads and that seems to the reason. The show was getting low ratings, and I guess Mack was cleaning up her act ( she really did look good on tonight's ep.,Julie's return ) She even looked a little chubby, but in a good way. Her face looked very filled out and pretty, she looked very healthy!!! So I guess they thought they would give her another chance, and bring back her and hubby Max to try to get the ratings back up! And I guess keep Alex in case Mack were to screw up again!!!! I'm thinking maybe Nick was the dud with the fans and Alex was more liked, appealing to a younger audience!

Haha no. But I do love Bad Arnold, one of my favorite 70s horror movies. For some reason I just picture them not having enough bedrooms for him so they had to make a room for him. Weird what my mind conjures sometimes.

I disagree, IMO it helped picked the show up. It showed what it was like for Ann to have "son", Barbara to have a "brother", and Schneider to have a surrogate "nephew"---it gave the show a whole new fresh flavor for me.

I agree. We might be the only ones who feel this way.
