Default According to Florence, only women can be single without kids

Watched the episode from season 6 when Louise was trying to create a suicide hotline and a reporter came in and spoke to Florence. Florence thought he wanted to kill himself when he said....."I want to talk about suicide"

So she was like.......you have so much to live for, what about your kids, your wife, your girlfriend? He said he didn't have any kids, wife or girlfriend and her response was......Lord, no wonder you want to kill yourself"

Wasn't she situated the same way? She was single with no kids and no boyfriend or husband. SO how could she talk?

Oh!! Maybe that was the punch line!!! Back in the old days women just LIVED to get married and have kids ! If not they were called "old maids"!! Even if they didn't work as a maid like Florence did, that is what they were labeled! So, she was making a joke at her own expense maybe?

Florence was an idiot. Just because a single man has no kids, wife or girlfriend means little. A man can still have a happy and successful life. She should have known that. Irony is.... look at Sherman Hemsley.... he had no kids and he never had a wife... but he was incredibly successful.

It has to be understood that Florence was raised in the Deep South AND as a baptist. On the other hand, Marla Gibbs' character on "227" had a more "hip" yet still traditional view on things.

There was an episode from either the 2nd or 3rd season where Florence wanted to kill herself.

I am situated the same way and nowhere near depressed lol

Don't like being around kids and know I am not qualified to support a woman with the money I make

So all I can have is Friends with benefits

I suppose the big difference was that being single and childless was Sherman's choice.
You on the other hand want a family? What about your mom and siblings or cousins who love you? I guess that doesn't compare to an actual family of your own.
I have an ex husband, so no man in my life right now but I did get two daughters out of it. I can't imagine not having my girls.

Nope, I am not into the family life. Plus I work around kids so 8 hours of that is enough lol
