First movie (non horror) that you saw in the theatre

Only reason I said non horror was because we already have a thread on that! But if a horror movie was the first movie you ever saw in the theatre you can post it!!!

My first memory of going to a movie was the Batman movie , 1966 ! My Mom took my Brother ,Sister and I to the matinee! After that , most movies I saw (except drive ins ) were without parents!!! Ahhh the good ,safe old days when a kid could go to the movies with no adults , just our siblings and friends!!

That's a good question. One of my earliest memories was going to see Gus at the drive-in. My mom is a big Don Knotts fan so we went to see a few of his movies. I couldn't tell you what it was about. The first movie I remember seeing was Star Wars and I saw it at an indoor theatre. That was when I was 6 and my memory of that is very clear. Next year I saw Grease at the drive-in and that made a memorable impression on me.

this one in 1998 after that I didn't return to the theatre till 4 years later to see harry potter and the chamber of secrets in 2002 the following year 2003 I saw Freddy Vs Jason. Underworld. Scary Movie 3. Cat in the hat. Haunted Mansion. brother bear. Peter Pan & Lord of the rings the return of the king.

so I guess you could say I started going to the movies pretty regular beginning in 2003 I've currently seen 125 movies at the theatre in my lifetime and im only 23 years old so I've got a long way to go before im considered a movie nerd/buff I guess

Same year as my first horror movie. The Land That Time Forgot (1975) with Doug McClure.

For me it was Star Wars, when it first released way back in 1977.

The film broke just as Darth Vader was entering Leia's ship.

Seeing Star Wars at the theater in 1977 probably had the biggest impact on me as a kid, even though I was a scifi fan because of my mom, Star Wars really solidified my love for the genre.

Another movie memory is my mom covering my eyes when Jane Fonda is sitting on the toilet in The Fun With Dick And Jane.

We went to the drive in a lot. Sitting in the backseat wearing pajamas. I remember seeing Song Of The South, this was obviously during its re release.
Also saw Disney's The Black Hole at the drive in.
My dad took me to see Used Cars with Kurt Russell at the drive in, that might have been the last time I went as a kid.

My first was "The Care Bears Movie." My mother took me. Later we saw "E.T." when it was rereleased.

I vaguely remember my 1st film that I saw was An American Tail...



The plot is about a mouse named Fievel who he and his family migrate from Russia to the United States since cats destroyed their home town...I think we saw most of the film, but missed the beginning.

But now as I see it...I wonder if subconsciously gave me the idea of a play I made called "The Russian Comedy" where a Russian named Viktor couldn't make it in 1917 Russia so he goes and tries to find greener grass with Anastasia as they try to get away from Stalin across Europe.

I may rewrite this screenplay again to have in small theater...this song is even played...

I remember going to see "Song of The South"
(but don't know what year )
I do remember it being a "continuously run showing"--that means that they played it over and over without stopping...you could come in the middle, the end, or the beginning and could stay all day.

I do remember seeing
"Birds Do It" Aug 1966 with Soupy Sales and a Chimpanzee named Judy.....right after the movie ended we got to see them in person. Soupy Sales took questions about the movie, from the audience.
It was a very big surprise visit from Soupy Sales (and the chimpanzee) and was not planned!!

My first animated "The Jungle Book" 1967

Then there were a lot of Walt Disney movies:

"Happiest Millionaire" 1967 with Fred MacMurray

One of these three was the first one that I went to with just friends, no adults

"The Love Bug" 1968 with Dean Jones

or

"Blackbread's Ghost" 1968 with Dean Jones

or

"Computer Wore Tennis Shoes" 1969 with Kurt Russel


Afterall, that is a long, long time ago

I was only 8 or 9... the days when it was safe to go to the movies as a kid and be able to walk home (about 2 miles) with no trouble.

It had to be either a Disney movie ( Mary Poppins ) or a John Wayne movie. We're talking about back in the 60's.

I honestly can't remember. I remember going to drive-ins with my parents when I was 5 and 6 but I can't remember what movies we saw. I never really went into theaters much back then.

Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines Followed by That Darn Cat! Both in 1965. Of course I may have seen others earlier in my life (Accompanied by my poarents), but if this was the case I don't remember.

PS. That Darn Cat! held the honor of being my all-time funniest movie from 1965 to 1992, when it was dethroned by another movie, this one was about a kid who gets on the wrong plane, then spends a ton of his dad's money and makes things miserable to a pair of bumbling thieves.

I think it was 101 Dalmatians. The next day I asked my next door neighbor if she owned a fur coat. She said yes and I took a step back and said, You're Cruella Devil! She laughed and said I'm not going to hurt your doggie.
