Default One Day at a Time vs. Gimme a Break

Which show do you like better?
I don't know why I thought to compare these two shows, but they have a few similarities:
  1. Both shows were on TV in the 1980s.
  2. Both shows featured single parents with teenage daughters (Ann was a divorcee; Carl Kanisky was a widower).
  3. Gimme a Break had Nell Carter as the housekeeper who treats them like family; ODAAT had Schneider as the building superintendent (Dwayne Schneider), who treats them like family.
  4. Nell takes in young Joey Donovan as her foster son. Ann takes in Alex as her foster son.

Too easy for me. ODAAT. Of course I've never seen GAB, but I don't think that would change anything.

Gimme A Break was funnier and more light hearted.

I voted One day at a time . But I remember liking Gimme a break a lot, but I haven't seen it in years! And as you all know, I'm on my ODAAT kick lately!!!

Wish Antenna or METV would pick up Gimme a break!!!

I think you would like it ,as Wawwie said it was a very enjoyable show. No Barbara/Valerie though. But from what I remember the oldest daughter was pretty!

I think there's a poster here that hangs out at the GAB board that has that covered.

That's good to know. What network is airing it? I had no idea it was in syndication. I did a search and found out that it was airing on a station called TV One but it isn't on their schedule this week. I don't get that channel where I live anyway, but fortunately, I have the Gimme a Break complete series box set released a few years ago so I'm all set.

One Day at a Time. I've never even seen Gimme a Break. I really haven't watched a whole lot of One Day at a Time but I watched it some earlier in the year on Antenna TV before they started those horrible credit crunches which is why I will not watch it on there now. I hope Shout will release a complete series of it sometime.

Went with Gimme a Break!

Interesting Fact...Mort Lachman created GAB and had Hal Cooper direct many of the shows...BOTH of them are part of the Norman Lear umbrella...Lear also was involved with ODATT.
