I'm really scared about being homeless and I think that's the direction I'm going in because I can't get a job anywhere. The emails that I send to jobs get ignored and I think the problem is is because my resume is weak because I don't have a good work history. I don't have a lot of job skills and the only jobs I'm good at are cleaning and porter work at a apartment. I was let go from my daytime job today because the building engineer who's a white man was complaining too much and he never seemed satisfied. He really got on my nerves about the glass doors not being cleaned and he felt i wasn't doing enough cleaning the cobwebs on the building. He also complained about the trash not being picked up outside. So he was just a as*hole. I've worked for white men bosses at all my jobs and I didn't like any of them because they complain too much and they're too demanding. So I don't know what I'm gonna do for money and I thank God I still got my part time evening job. If I didn't have that, I would really be in trouble because I got a $2,500 credit card bill and I got a car I gotta take care of and it's 22 years old. I'm probably in the near future gonna have to file for bankruptcy again because I can't pay my credit card bill. I've already filed for bankruptcy before in 2000. I can't pay my parents rent and if they weren't around, I would be homeless and living on the streets.
Sometimes I wish I was dead because when I think about how I've continued to struggle to find a job and I'm 39 years old, it makes me really mad. It makes me mad that I've never had my own apartment because I can't keep a job long enough to live on my own and I've never made enough money to live on my own. I've always had to live with my parents and grandparents. I think it's possible that I may have a learning disability because I'm afraid to learn other jobs besides cleaning and porter work at a apartment. My brain doesn't concentrate very well when I try to learn new jobs and that's why I don't apply for jobs that pay good because I'm not good at learning challenging jobs that require me to use my brain. I would like to know if anybody can offer me some advice as to what I should do regarding getting money. Is it possible that I should try to apply for social security disability? I just recently lost my health insurance because I have to renew it and I don't know why because I haven't had it that long. I need to see a doctor or psychiatrist to find out what's wrong with me as to why I can't keep a job and why I struggle to find a job. If I don't get a job soon, it's only a matter of time that I will end up homeless and without a car. |

Yes! I really do think you should apply for SSD! You seem to be suffering from depression. By saying wishing you were dead sometimes, that isn't good! I think you really should seek professional counseling. If you apply for SSD and tell them how you are feeling ,they will refer you to do what you need to do.It is hard these days. The economy is bad. And if you are only applying to jobs you feel comfortable with and they aren't always available what can you do? Maybe you can get the confidence and the support from counseling to be able to seek out and land another type of job. You have posted many times about this and you really need to do something. I strongly suggest you apply for SSD! God bless you!

Bonniegirl, alright I'm gonna look at applying for social security disability but that's gonna be very hard to get because I have no proof from a doctor that I'm disabled. So I'm gonna have to see a doctor or psychiatrist again to find out what's wrong with me because I can't get a job and I have a hard time keeping a job. So maybe it's possible that I might not be able to work anymore because I have a mental disability which is preventing me from getting a job. Bonniegirl, I told you that I'm not good at other jobs besides cleaning and that's why I don't apply for other jobs. I've tried working different jobs before and I didn't keep any of them. I've worked at several factories, I worked at Walmart and Target, I worked at a dollar store and I worked at a couple of grocery stores. I also worked at a beverage company. I didn't keep any of those jobs long.
So there's a serious problem that I have keeping a job unless it's cleaning work. I worked for a cleaning company in Virginia part time for 10 years and the only reason why I quit was because my boss who's the owner would never let me have any days off. Plus the job was far away from where I lived. Last full time job I was laid off from last year, I was there for almost 9 years. Those jobs are the only ones i've been at a long time. I saw a psychiatrist this past summer and she didn't think anything was wrong with me mentally because she couldn't diagnose me for having a disability. I didn't understand how she couldn't figure out something was wrong with me. I was telling her that my work history isn't good and you would think that she would see something is wrong. So I'm gonna get my health insurance renewed because I called the Medicaid company today to talk to somebody but I couldn't get through to anybody. So I left a message and I'm gonna call again tomorrow because I have to get my health insurance renewed before September 30th or I'm gonna lose my insurance. I'm also gonna apply for food stamps. I might even move back to Cleveland next spring if I don't find a job here because I don't think I'm gonna find a job here. There's too many Hispanic men in Virginia and Maryland and they're getting the cleaning and porter jobs I want. There's not a lot of Hispanic men in Cleveland. So I think i'll have a better chance of getting a job there. Bonniegirl, I don't think there's anything wrong with people talking about suicide because nobody likes being poor and unemployed because you can't live without money. That's why I hate the government because they're not doing enough to help unemployed and homeless people get jobs and housing. Unemployment and homelessness are 2 serious issues in America that the government and politicans don't seem to care about because these issues continue to exist. There's no way that people should be without jobs and sleeping at homeless shelters and sleeping in the streets. That's no way to live. |

Well, I hope you get on your feet soon. I know it sucks when your unemployed. You barely have enough money to buy food. Your right. Its no way to live.

I make enough money to buy food but it's not enough because I only spend $60 every week. Before I used to spend $100 every 2 weeks for food when I had a full time job. I just applied for food stamps from Maryland's social services office and I'm gonna mail them my application tomorrow. I hope I get approved. It really pisses me off that social services won't gimme a welfare check unless I'm disabled or I have kids. It seems to me like they aren't taking my money situation seriously because if I didn't need money, I wouldn't be coming to them for help. It really disturbs me that there's so many blacks unemployed because when I went to the social services office for the first time earlier this year, I saw mostly blacks and a few Hispanics. It's really sad that so many blacks have to depend on welfare and food stamps to survive because they can't get jobs. Sometimes I hear people say that there's more whites that are on welfare than blacks and I don't agree. If there was more whites on welfare and getting food stamps, how come I don't see a lot of them at the social services office? There's always gonna be more blacks unemployed and on welfare than whites.

Make sure you're applying for General Relief and not TANF. You should visit www.servicelocator.org or your local Regional Center for employment services. Calling 211 would be recommended as well.
Best of luck |

You don't keep getting fired because you are doing a good job. Your negative attitude is a self-fulfilling prophesy. See a psychologist - and because you are poor it will probably be free - and he will show you that you have to change and not the world. You do simple work and it's not that tough to do it well enough to keep your job. And stop hiding behind your race. Millions of black people work and do just fine.

TANF stands for Temporary Assistance to Needy Families. Given to people with kids.
General Relief is for people who have no children and need food stamps(EBT) and some money to help with shelter costs and medical expenses. If you apply for General Relief or Temporary Assistance, they will expect you to apply for work and possibly attend a workshop for the county. You may also have to get a paper signed stating that you filled out an application at the place that you applied. Furthermore, they may expect you to also apply for Unemployment benefits even though you don't qualify. General Relief is easy to apply for and anyone can but it's a lot of work to keep. |

Isiahthomas,
Just from what I have read, that you have posted. You show signs of a very serious condition know as "DEPRESSION". It is a serious medical condition, but can be treated. (You probably have suffered from this most of your life) Please seek help first from a "Social Worker" describe to them what you have shared with us. Make sure you tell them you have had "feelings that you would be better off dead." If the social worker can't or won't help--ask to see/talk to a "Manager or Supervisor." Be insisted until they help! Do not leave!! Every life is important!! I know what I'm saying will be hard to do, but YOU have to do it!! I wish that there was more that I could do, then post..... when you suffer from DEPRESSION, you almost alway suffer alone, until you can get someone to LISTEN. We had a very famous Actor/Comedian, who felt the same as YOU....His name was ROBIN WILLIAMS! |
