I always remember having color TV!! I was born in 62 ,so I guess my earliest memories are from like 1966 or so? I'm the generation when shows were converting from Black and White to color. So I remember shows not in color ,but I also remember always seeing shows in color too ,and my Mom making a big deal saying. "Great !!! This show is in COLOR"!!!! So I'm guessing we got color TV in 65 ? Than we had a smaller black and white portable TV as well!

My parents got their first color TV in the early 70's. 1971 or 72. I remember it was a fairly big deal at the time. Got my own first color set in 1979 as a high school graduation present.

Hmmm. Now I'm wondering? After reading the other responses ,why did my family have a color TV so early? We weren't rich, weren't poor either, middle class . But color TV's were probably expensive ! But I am POSITIVE that I remember watching Batman in color! That was my Brothers favorite show! Wasn't that on in 1966 or 67?

Around 1966 or 1967--it was a Motorola and it swiveled. Back then they were always made like pieces of furniture, with wood. (Edit: the one that swiveled might have been a black and white. I think the new color one was a Zenith.)
My dad was in real estate and always knew somebody, to get major items. In this case he knew one of the partners who ran G & G Electronics in Medford, N. J. So he probably got a discount. |

I had a little black & white TV in my bedroom that I watched a lot of shows on. I can't remember when our family got a color TV.
