All in the Family was never on WPIX. It was on WNYW. Carolin was on WNYW and now on WWOR.

WWOR has had a lot of sitcoms but I can only remember a few because I haven't had the channel since the mid nineties. Here is what I remember.

Who's The Boss
227
Gimme A Break
Fish
Gloria
It's A Living

Believe it or not both WWOR and WPIX, though they are still local NY channels, you can get them anyway across the country via Dish Network as they offer them as part of a superstation package. WSBK out of Boston is offered as well, as as Denver's KWGN and LA's KTLA.

New York's WCBS, WABC, WNYW, and WNBC ( and their LA counterparts ) are offered to viewers on both Direct TV and Dish Network.
But to get these channels you cant live within I believe 60 or 70 miles away from the
station's transmitter. To get the ok depends on your actual street address.

Stange as it may seem but in my hometown in Virginia WNYW has almost as many viewers as Washington's WTTG even though DC is only 80 miles away.

Dont know anything about the reruns in the past on WOR and WPIX ( though I remember seeing awhile back that they offered Emergency on WWOR ) but many shows reruned on WNYW ( back when it was WNEW ) were also seen on the other Metromedia stations too ( like DC's WTTG 5 ) Wonderama and Merv were two I remember.

WWOR had the Cosby Show in the 90's and they now have newer shows like Steve Harvey and Moesha. They just got Roseanne, CAroline in the city and A Different World from WNYW. WPIX used to air shows like Family Matters and Coach at good times but now air them on weekends or late nite.

I'm sure both WWOR & WPIX are availble on cable in New England ( like Rhode Island ) but as far as on a national basis goes they are availble on Dish Network only- part of their "superstations" package. Direct TV will not offer WPIX, WWOR, or even WSBK to viewers say in Maryland or Kentucky ( unless they have changed their policy recently). However there was a time back in the 80s when both WWOR ( back during their Morton Downey Jr. days ) and WSBK were availble on many cable systems down south and west. I remember for example watching WSBK out of Boston on cable in North Carolina, but its not that way anymore.

However one thing I dont get about dishes, on cable tv here in West Virginia one can pick up channels from both Washington Dc AND Baltimore and there are some systems nearby here that offer channels from other distant markets like Harrisburg & Altoona-Johnstown, PA and also Richmond, Virginia. The exception to the rule is FOX, The Fox station in Dc ( owned by FOX ) wont allow cable systems in Virginia, West Virginia, and many parts of Maryland to carry any other FOX than DC's WTTG. Unless you live in a nearby metro area ( Baltimore and Richmond for example ).

Yet the dishes ( Dish Network and Direct Tv ) wont do that. Though if you live far enough from a station Dish will give you the chance to choose from either NYC, LA, Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, and Denver.

Intersting footnote, recently I read that out in Montana and Wyoming- many viewers out there consider NYC stations THEIR channels, thats where the got the news about the attacks.

I have always lived in Missouri and when I was younger my family had WWOR and WSBK on our satellie dish. WPIX was available but we didn't subscribe to it.

wonder if anybody here still has those "big" satellite dishes? Think they are called "k" band or something like that.

For many years there were quite a few local compaines that sold them. Today just about all of them have switched to Direct Tv or Dish Network or even both.

Wonder what kind of selection you get on those big dishes? Can you pike up Goodlife, AIN, TV Land Canada, the Superstations.
Neither Dish & Direct offers AIN or even Goodlife.

Years ago a good friend of mine had one of those dishes and he often would pick up ABC's
( and CBS's too ) closed circuit feed they would send to their stations. Never forget the time seeing Peter Jennings light up a Marlboro on the set of World News Tonight or
watching some newsperson ( forgot who it was now) on CBS' feed throw her glass across the room and used every foul word one can think of. Why ? Her iced tea had cubed ice and she wanted CBS to give her shaved ice.

True I'm sure many TV people from Dan Rather
to Barbara Walters to even Bob Barker, chnaces are smoke cigarettes, drink Jack Daniels, cuss or whatever, but to see them actually doing itis a strange sight.

Never did see any behind the scenes of the late NBC newscaster Jessica Savitch. I read in the past that during commericla breaks she would get up yell , throw papers, cuss everyone out, in short go off on anything.
But when the camera came back to her she was all smiles.

sorry that I got off track on this subject. I remember going to Long Island back into the mid 80s and remember that NYC's channel 5 was really big in Lucy. I believed they aired an hour of I Love Lucy in the mornings lus again at night. I also think Alice did 5 too.

What about the other NYC stations? Wonder if WABC, WCBS, or WNBC ever aired reruns too? I heard that WABC has aired reruns of Topper recently but I have never seen it there.

Back in the early 80s the NBC owned station in Washington DC ( WRC 4 ) aired both Here's Lucy and Charlie's Angels in their late afternoon time slots ( before they expanded their local news ). Did WNBC do the same thing before "Live @ 5" ?

AIN isn't available everywhere since it's made up of a loosly organized group of independent stations, and these never have good receptions from what I hear, hence the name AIN-American Independent Netowork

Just to clear something up, WWOR channel 9 really didn't air Gloria orFish. I'll explain. Back in 1989 a network called WWOR EMI service was created to to cover up certain shows on WWOR 9 since it ws a superstation. "Taxi" used to air weeknites at 6:30pm but while NY, NJ and CT viewers were able to watch, the rest of us watched this pathetic thing called the "comedy wheel". The program consisted of short lived shows aired in the 6:30 Time Slot:

"The four seasons"
"The delta house"
"He's The Mayor"

and others.

They would also air Gimmie A Break and Charles in Charge and a lot of Paid Programing. I had a big issue with this. Back in 1990 I got all exicted because 227 and Amen were gonna start weekdays 5pm and 6:30pm on WWOR but then I check my TV Guide they had some crime drama show in its place. They were kinda sloppy with covering the WWOR 9 shows. Perfect Strangers just came out in syndication and just as the show starts, the picture freezes and then something from the comedy wheel starts.

Another example, "Gloria" @ 7:30pm. WWOR9 was about to air something on baseball and then the pic freezes and then Gloria (from WWOR EMI Service) begins. I have the tape to prove it too.

I spoke to someone at WWOR 9 back in 96' and asked why we dont get the same programming. I even called my grandmother in Manhattan and aksed her to turn to WWOR 9 and while 227 was playing over the phone, I got some crime drama. The guy at WWOR said that most shows aired on the station were being aired in most parts of the US and had to be covered up with something else. This went on for a while and it was frustrating. WGN did it too. But now they officially have a superstaion. Whew! Well I've said a mouthful.

I don't know how it was in other parts of the country but the WWOR on our satelite dish did air Gloria and Fish. I always thought it was weird because the theme for 227 or Amen would play for about five seconds then all of the sudden Gimme A Break or Who's The Boss would come on instead.

Uh Huh. See? What did I tell you? That is what I stated in my post. For a while WWOR 9 was an actual show on the channel.
