I read Mackenzie Phillip's memoir - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I had a feeling I'd hate it ... I hate most memoirs/biographies.

I was correct. It was all about drugs. Who wants to read that? Why did she think she had to tell everyone about that?

I enjoyed it, and thought it was well written. But honestly, what did you think you were going to be reading about? It's quite well known that drugs make up a large piece of Mackenzie's past, so obviously she's going to write about it. It's been a while since I read it, but I do recall there was more to the book than only drugs.

I read it not too long ago. I enjoyed it, but I admit some of it was very shocking! She was so hardcore! And in my younger days I was a partier, weed and drinking, but nothing compared to her! I mean I really was like this

through most of the book! Hard to believe a person could be that self destructive! It was sad, but that was her life, her past. It was a well written book though. I could barely put it down once I started!

Wow. I love biographies/memoirs! My favorite kind of books or movies!

Hardcore is definitely a good word for it. I think she was even more hardcore after she had rebounded in the early 2000's. That part was shocking to me. It seemed like she was way more out of control at that point than when she was in her younger years. Maybe it's because when I met her in 2002 she was such a sweetheart and completely put together. It's just hard to believe she went from that to hitting rock bottom. I have no clue how she survived all of that, but I'm glad she did.

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The main thing I came away from it with: her father created an environment for her, at a very early age, that even his contemporaries recognized as highly dangerous -- and leading to a self-destructive life for Mackenzie.

You are right! You can understand a teenager or a person in their 20's being self destructive, immature not realizing the consequences ! But when she relapsed as a grown older woman it really was getting tragic and pathetic!

I too read it and was fascinated by it. She has had an extremely "interesting" life.

Drug addiction like alcoholism is a disease. A drug addict getting clean is a lot like a cancer patient going into remission. There is always the possibility of the disease coming back. That's what happened to Mackenzie. Like another poster mentioned Mack's troubles all started with her father, John Phillips. He's the one she learned all her self destructive habits from!

Ok, why bother even reading the book then? It was part of the healing process for her, which she then used to help a lot of other people learn how to begin healing.

Yeah and it's sad. Lots of her family didn't believe her and/or they were in denial and aren't even speaking to her now!

Her Dad was the main cause of the start of her drug addiction and what happened between them worsened the addiction! Than for the family to turn their back on her!
