Thanks for posting these. I read about Marion and Lost Boy Larry once before, on Listverse, I think. What's creepy about Larry, if it wasn't a hoax that is, that the truck was never found.

The only one I had heard about before was Nicholas Barclay. I posted that in the CP thread and it's the most viewed profile in the entire website of nearly 10,000 missing persons.
The Alex Mengel one was frightening and intriguing. I always find cases where they are unknown victims and mysterious pictures and maps and things of that nature to be intriguing. In this case, there's 5 women who have never been identified! That's a lot. I've posted a few of these type cases on the CP thread. The Lost Boy Larry one was creepy beyond words. What do you all think? On one hand, it seems like it could be a hoax as there was never any reports of any missing child that fit the description (or the missing father for that matter) and it seems like something would have turned up by now, 42 years later. On the other hand, the weakening signal which eventually faded out completely would make sense if the story were true, and people who actually spoke with Larry felt he was genuine. For most people, it's not easy to fake crying, and that would especially be true with males. He could have literally been anywhere. It was said they even heard him in Canada, could he be Canadian? If it was a hoax, it was a damn good one. I don't suppose any recordings of it might still be around? |

So was that episode of The Simpsons loosely based around the Lost Boy Larry incident? You know the episode where Bart pretends to be "Timmy" who's stuck down a well.
