Default Bizarre Cases of the missing and murdered

http://culturecrossfire.com/etc/unso.../#.Vd81fvZViko

My latest true crime article features five bizarre cases of people who have gone missing, murdered or both. From serial killers to hippies who vanished in a supernatural glow, the stories vary from tragic to mesmerizing

Thanks for posting these. I read about Marion and Lost Boy Larry once before, on Listverse, I think. What's creepy about Larry, if it wasn't a hoax that is, that the truck was never found.

The only one I had heard about before was Nicholas Barclay. I posted that in the CP thread and it's the most viewed profile in the entire website of nearly 10,000 missing persons.

The Alex Mengel one was frightening and intriguing. I always find cases where they are unknown victims and mysterious pictures and maps and things of that nature to be intriguing. In this case, there's 5 women who have never been identified! That's a lot. I've posted a few of these type cases on the CP thread.

The Lost Boy Larry one was creepy beyond words. What do you all think? On one hand, it seems like it could be a hoax as there was never any reports of any missing child that fit the description (or the missing father for that matter) and it seems like something would have turned up by now, 42 years later. On the other hand, the weakening signal which eventually faded out completely would make sense if the story were true, and people who actually spoke with Larry felt he was genuine. For most people, it's not easy to fake crying, and that would especially be true with males. He could have literally been anywhere. It was said they even heard him in Canada, could he be Canadian?

If it was a hoax, it was a damn good one. I don't suppose any recordings of it might still be around?

So was that episode of The Simpsons loosely based around the Lost Boy Larry incident? You know the episode where Bart pretends to be "Timmy" who's stuck down a well.

I think it had more to do with little Jessica McClure who fell down a well/shaft in 1987.

"Timmy fell down a well" is an ongoing joke about Lassie and how she was supposedly able to communicate to people a predicament Timmy found himself in just by barking. The hilarious thing is that Timmy never really did fall down a well, but here's just a sampling of the other predicaments he found himself in:

.let a rabid dog out of a cage (“Graduation”)
…ate deadly nightshade berries (“Berrypickers”)
…threatened by an escaped female circus elephant (“The Elephant”)
…hides out in the treehouse when he has pneumonia (“Spartan”)
…threatened by a mother wolf (“The Wolf Cub”)
…falls into the lake (“Transition” and “The House Guest”)
…develops a high fever from the measles (“The Crisis”)
…is almost shot by Paul (“Hungry Deer”)
…ignores severe stomach pains; he’s diagnosed with appendicitis (“Hospital”)
…is trapped in an abandoned house with Boomer (“Trapped”)
…wanders into a live mine field (“Junior GIs”)
…is menaced by a bear (“Campout” and “The Renegade”)
…is trapped in a mine (“Old Henry”)
…gets a black eye playing football (“Growing Pains”)
…nearly flies a home-made glider off a cliff (“Flying Machine”)
…runs into a burning house to save a neighbor lady and passes out (“The Whopper”)
…is endangered by dynamite picked up by an escaped lab chimp (“The Man from Mars”)

My latest true crime article looks into 3 true strange cases - one with a boy who goes into the woods and ends up dead under strange circumstances, another of a woman who is taken in the night with her youngsters bearing witness and finally an Air Force disappearance that some have linked to UFOs....
