Oh, Her Birthday ep is on tonight? I missed that one last time around. Can't wait to see it tonight! There was a big discussion about it here, that I couldn't participate in too much having not seen it. From what I gather she really overreacts in this one!

You're not the only one. I missed it, too, because it aired during the Mother's Day marathon. Can't wait to see what all the fuss is about.

Yeah that Mother's day marathon made me miss a lot of eps too! I wasn't around much on Mother's day and only caught a few eps of the marathon too!

Barbara had a crisis, learning she couldn't have kids. Julies life was a crisis, but she never had an episode with that name. Ann just had a major overreaction. It's too bad they didn't know they were going to run for six more years. More people can relate to a meltdown at 40, rather then 36.

Yeah really! The big 4-0 was like the big 5-0 back in the 70's! So that would have made more sense than to freak out at 36!

Plus this lady already had been married, had two healthy, normal daughters (well healthy in the show, in Mack's case, well that's a different story) ! She was advancing in her career. Very independent. To sum it up, doing pretty well! I could see if she were an old maid , that had a menial job or couldn't keep a job, had no family or whatever and might feel like a failure! In Ann's case I didn't see where she was coming from to be this upset on a 36th birthday? But again , I never saw the show before, so I'll check out what's up with her tonight! And see if I can add some of my wise judgment and insight on the topic!

In Ann's defense she already was a little uptight about her birthday and turning 36, but seemed to have it under control by the time the party started. Than that plastic surgeon who she thought was going to be her date at the party but was a misunderstanding, he didn't know she invited him as a a date ( not very bright was he?) and showed up with another woman. A much younger woman as his date! That was what triggered her meltdown! And I could see that! Even if it wasn't my birthday and I wasn't thinking about my age. If a misunderstanding like that happens to a woman (or even a man) it s*cks!

I enjoyed the scene where she was at the office meeting with the plastic surgeon. It showed some of Ann's insecurities in an entertaining way.
Her monologue in the bedroom was too over-the-top for me. I think the writers were trying to make her philosophical, and give Bonnie an Emmy moment, but I think it just made Ann look like she was ready for the psychiatric ward.
This reminds me of a similar scene in Maude where she is at the psychologist's office, and she goes into this long monologue, but at least it looked like Maude was talking to her psychologist, whereas Ann came off as a bit off the deep end.

Ann's not stupid, and knows that happens a lot, and has seen it up close with Ed/herself,Ed/Vicky and Julie/Dr. Oldvet. There was still no need to take it out on the poor, innocent mirror...

But I really dropped by for casting. Anyone remember when Ann dated the stand up comedian who ended up using her in his act. Same actor as the doctor last night.

Oh yeah! That was the same actor huh?

I was disappointed in this ep. I thought her ranting/talking to herself was pretty boring. I thought she was going to scream, cry and freak out and make a scene in front of everyone at the party! This was kind of boring!
