That's probably because when Bookman revealed both of those things he immediately followed it up with a joke so it was kind of mentioned and then he went back to being goofy again

I knew he was a cancer survivor , I saw that ep. not too long ago that he was telling Carl to not give up and he could fight it ! I didn't know he was adopted though!

He reveals it in part 4 of the Evans get involved when he was apologizing for almost messing up willona's chances of adopting penny
