Default Zoe Kravitz: Lisa Bonet Disgusted And Concerned By Bill Cosby Sexual Allegations

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/...ims/ar-BBlYhHX

Quote:
Zoe Kravitz has declared her mother Lisa Bonet is "disgusted and concerned" by the sexual abuse allegations facing her The Cosby Show co-star Bill Cosby. The funnyman has been accused of sexually assaulting more than 50 women, and his co-star Bonet, who played his onscreen daughter in the 1980s sitcom, has so far refused to comment on the scandal which has been raging since last year (14).

Kravitz, Bonet's only child with rocker Lenny Kravitz, has now shed light on how her mother is dealing with the ongoing controversy, insisting the actress rarely talks about the problems facing her former onscreen father.

She tells Britain's The Guardian newspaper, "She hasn't, she really hasn't (talked about it)... she'd plead the fifth, even to me. She's just as disgusted and concerned as everyone else is, but I don't think she has any insight. It's news to her as well.

"She was on the show for a long time. She's also a beautiful woman. She's a very straightforward person. If there was something she felt the world needed to know that would help this case or help any women who had been abused, she would say something."

Cosby has denied the sex attack claims through his lawyer.

The Curious Silence of Cosby’s TV Daughters

by

Joanna Robinson

We may finally know what Bill Cosby‘s most rebellious TV daughter thinks of the allegations of sexual assault against him. Cosby Show actress Lisa Bonet—who is rumored to have a history of conflict with the comedian—has remained silent on the Cosby allegations, but in a recent interview with The Guardian, her real-life daughter, actress Zoë Kravitz, characterized her mom’s reaction as “disgusted and concerned.” It’s not much, but it’s more than the public has gotten from the older TV daughters of Cosby, who have remained silent over the past year.

Last fall, when Hannibal Buress’s stand-up routine about Bill Cosby went viral and opened the floodgates on a history of sexual assault that reportedly stretches back into the 60s, fans of the comedian and his groundbreaking sitcom, The Cosby Show, were curious to know: What did the Huxtables think? Not that any of the actors who grew up around or worked with Cosby were at all obligated to weigh in, but that hasn’t stopped the requests for comments. In a recent post titled “OF COURSE BILL COSBY IS GUILTY!,” Joseph C. Phillips, who played Bonet’s on-screen husband for three seasons, said he couldn’t “imagine how inundated with inquiries” his fellow Cosby actors were.

The actors who played the Huxtables have nevertheless remained fairly cautious, mostly claiming the accusations don’t line up with their perceptions of the comedian. In January, Cosby’s TV son, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, said, “The Bill Cosby I know has been great to me and great for a lot of people. . . . I can’t speak on the other stuff,” and his youngest TV daughter, Keisha Knight Pulliam, said, “No one was there except for the two people to know exactly what happened. All I can speak to is the man that I know and I love.” That same month, Cosby’s TV wife, Phylicia Rashad, was more controversially defensive, saying, “I think it’s orchestrated. I don’t know why or who’s doing it, but it’s the legacy. And it’s a legacy that is so important to the culture. . . . Someone is determined to keep Bill Cosby off TV. And it’s worked.” None of the actors have commented on the more recent allegations, including unsealed court records and the lengthy feature in New York Magazine.

But the older TV daughters of Cosby—Tempestt Bledsoe (who played Vanessa Huxtable from the ages of 11 to 19), Sabrina Le Beauf (who played Sondra Huxtable from the ages of 26 to 34), and Bonet (who played Denise Huxtable on and off from the ages of 17 to 24)—have remained completely silent. And whether that choice stems from pragmatic business-related reasons, or a desire to keep their emotions private, these women aren’t talking—as is their right, especially for former celebrities who have been living privately for many years, removed from the spotlight. But the desire for Bonet’s opinion is sky-high and a fake tweet with Bonet’s name attached was in heavy circulation last November before the fraud was detected and the account deleted.

In response to the Twitter incident, a representative for the actress said that Bonet “continues to have no comment on the subject.”

So Kravitz’s impressions of her mom, vague as they may be, are possibly the closest we’ll ever come to satisfying our curiosity about these women who spent much of their young adulthood working with Cosby. Kravitz said of her mother’s silence, “I think she’s just staying out of it. She’s just as disgusted and concerned as everyone else is, but I don’t think she has any insight. It’s news to her as well.” But Kravitz does understand why the public is so eager to hear Bonet’s thoughts. “She was on the show for a long time,” Kravitz said. “She’s also a beautiful woman. It makes people wonder. She’s a very straightforward person. If there was something she felt the world needed to know that would help this case or help any women who had been abused, she would say something.”

No one has gone so far as to publicly accuse Cosby of misconduct with his teenage TV daughters, though some of those darker thoughts have splashed onto a younger member of the cast. Raven-Symoné—who was only four when she joined the Cosby show as Bonet’s TV step-daughter—felt the need to publicly refute any rumors.

But it’s Bonet, more than any of these other young women, who had the most friction with Cosby. Rumor has it the spin-off A Different World was created just to remove the young and popular Bonet from a volatile environment on set. In a piece titled “Lisa Bonet: The Cosby Show Kid Who Got Away,” Jezebel writer Hillary Crosley Coker dug up an old David Letterman appearance where Bonet says she joined the cast of A Different World because “they told me to?” In that same interview, Letterman asks Bonet what her TV dad thought of her nude scene in 1987’s Angel Heart. The transcript is as follows:

Letterman: Is that alright, do you think, to be doing that?

Bonet: I thought it was O.K.

Letterman: What about—what will Cosby say when he finds out about this?

Bonet: I don’t know, I asked him before, I told him that I was going to do this film and it, you know, had a little nudity in it.

Letterman: And what’d he say?

Bonet: He was very good, he said, ‘Well, I know that this is just a job,’ and, you know, it is ‘The Cosby Show’ and you know what Cosby spells backwards.’

Letterman: What does it spell backwards?

Bonet: King of . . . I don’t know.

Later, in an Ebony article about Bonet, Cosby says he did approve of her doing the film but was “quick to add that he didn’t go see it because ’that film doesn’t offer my appetite anything.’” He went on to say that he and Bonet had “very, very strong conversations” and “Lisa knows that if I’m upset about something, like, say MAD, I don’t bite my tongue.” Unlike Cosby, Bonet and her TV sisters are still biting theirs.

Joseph Phillips has dissed Bill in a couple of interviews because he said he had a woman that talked to him about what Bill did to her. Joseph said he believed her story.
