Robert De Niro Says Scorsese "Didn't Ask" Him To Appear on "Boardwalk Empire"
Robert De Niro Says Martin Scorsese "Didn't Ask" Him to be on "Boardwalk Empire"
by Will Robinson 8/20/15 Robert De Niro plus Martin Scorsese in any visual medium is never a bad idea. But when Scorsese executive produced and directed the pilot of the HBO gangster series "Boardwalk Empire", De Niro wasn’t present. In the October cover story for Cigar Aficionado, De Niro tells the magazine that Scorsese never asked him to be involved. “No, Marty didn’t ask me, but that’s fine,” De Niro says to the magazine’s editor and publisher Marvin Shanken. Shanken jokes that it was because De Niro doesn’t watch much TV — a tidbit he shares just prior — to which the Oscar-winning actor responds, “No, he had his reasons, and it might not have even occurred to him to ask me about it.” There’s remotely no ill will, though, because later, De Niro is effusive with praise for one of the all-time great directors and helmer of eight of the actor’s films. He dishes on why actors love to work with him. “He’s very easy, he goes with your ideas, he’s very, very flexible, and takes whatever he can from every actor,” De Niro says. “Yet he’s very clear as a director, and guides it, the piece, in the direction he feels he should. He gives you a lot of support.” http://www.ew.com/article/2015/08/20...gar-aficionado |
